Welp, that was a DISASTER today against the Orioles! 18 runs... wtf pitching come on!
Porcello will be alright. He is great for Fenway.
Boston has no pitching
Yankees are old
Toronto is injury prone
Baltimore didn't replace anybody they lost in the off season
Tampa is young and inexperienced
Thanks for the vote of confidence!Boston is going NOWHERE with that pathetic pitching staff. Gonna be a long season.
Amazing day when Mujica is the best of a horrible lot of pitchers.
This is your season, Red Sox fans. Announcers rifling through Elias stats for records - and not the good kind of records for you. Everything you tools hoped for with Cespedes' magic arm and bat, and you practically guaranteed the genius of giving away and then getting back Lester. LOL!
Instead you're headed for a last place finish, and will be left making troll posts about ARod when the Bombers slip into a playoff spot.
Enjoy your disaster. I bet you're getting used to it again.
Thanks for the vote of confidence!
I'm not too worried about Porcello. Buchholz' durability is always a question, but he's looked very good so far. The rest are very iffy. Masterson's velocity's fallen off a cliff.
The Sox need a reliable lefty starter for sure as a priority. So I did a little digging and here's what I found out.
Right now they have 3 such candidates at Pawtucket. Eduardo Rodriguez has been impressive in the early going with a 2-0 record and low era. He is the compensation that Boston got from Baltimore for Andy Miller. Also there is Brian Johnson who is 2-1 with an 0.56 era and 18 k's in 16 innings. The third is Henry Owens, but he has had control issues ( 14 walks in 16 innings ) so I think we can eliminate him from a call up at this time. I know the organization would likely want to give Rodriguez and Johnson more time at Triple A, but you have to measure that against the current crisis in Boston.
It would also be good to see prospect Blake Swihart get some playing time behind the plate for the big club. He is currently hitting .309 at Pawtucket and is an excellent receiver, particularly good at throwing out base stealers.
Batters will stop swinging at his splitter sooner or later. Does not bode well at all.
Just looking at the Sox rotation, they're currently 13th in MLB in xFIP, 16th in FIP, 3rd in K/9, and 7th in GB%. But dead last in ERA. It's still not a great rotation by any stretch, but there's a lot of room for improvement, and a SP acquisition probably wouldn't be a bad idea.
As for the bullpen, that's a very good question. Tazawa I guess? Blah.
