Mussina or Schilling. I think it's pretty damn close, but I go with Schilling by a hair. Schilling has a better ERA, ERA+, and WHIP. Of seasons with an ERA+ over 100 (with 20 games started) they are each tied with 12 seasons apiece. Mussina did pitch around 300 more innings, and added 2 more wins over replacement than Schilling did. I think Schilling's postseason numbers might give him the edge, but Mussina's numbers are nothing to scoff at either. Both are definitely deserving, but it is an interesting question.

of those two i see one who belongs and one who doesnt... I think Curt schilling deserves to make it while mussina is borderline... There regular seasons are pretty much the same... its all about the playoffs for schilling... he is top 5 best playoff pitchers ever plus he has 2 titles including the bloody sock...

Playoffs has to be taken into account to the HOF, and schilling was just too good...

Both borderline if only look at regular season...

Moose was more consistent. I've posted it before but Schilling wasn't even on a HOF path at age 33. He had an amazing (my belief PED assisted) run from 34-40 that put him there.

Mussina finished with a 270-153 record and a 3.68 earned run average. Only four major league pitchers had at least 500 starts and a better winning percentage than Mussina’s .638: Christy Mathewson, Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson and Grover Cleveland Alexander. Advanced metrics also favor Mussina, who has more Wins Above Replacement, as calculated by baseballreference.com, than Jim Palmer, Juan Marichal, Bob Gibson, Carl Hubbell, Jim Bunning and Tom Glavine, who is likely to be elected easily on Wednesday with his former Atlanta Braves teammate Greg Maddux.

What is this? Baseball version of Sophie's Choice? Neither ... Jack Morris (shameless homer pick). Seriously Roger Clemens, because he had to pitch against batters on PEDs.

I think it's a complete wash. Schilling's postseason definitely makes up for Mussina's regular season edge, but Mussina did it all in the hitter's parks of the AL East.

Well, both deserve to be in the HOF, and Morris clearly doesn't, so....

Three titles.

And who ever suggested postseason isn't taken into account?

If I absolutely had to choose one, it would be Schilling. Extremely close though

I'd probably go Schilling for his postseason heroics. Both have pretty similar regular season careers.

Forgot about the 3rd title...

My point about the playoffs was simply that they are pretty much a wash in the regular season.... So the fact that schilling is one of the best playoff pitchers in baseball history that has to boost him over mussina...

I have alway considered them borderline - but if Glavine can 91% of the votes - Schiiling and Mussina should get the same, or more. All three are interchangeable....

If I could only take one I would probably take Mussina. Schilling seems like he would talk too much while viewing the exhibits, probably during the car ride too. Plus with his financial troubles I might end up having to pay for his admission as well.

Nobody, untill their is a new way of certfying who qualifies for the BBWA in the first place..Craig Biggio , from Houston was left of two ballots! And because of this, he JUST missed election to the HOF. Nonsense like this has got to stop.
If your're going to let abusers like Bonds, Clemens and A-Rod in, let them have their own *Asterisk* wing in the HOF.
The HOF as become an absolutly absurd joke...the voting process is absurd..
Frankly, if I were a certified member of the BBWA, I would resign, because of this mess.

Schillings bloody sock is in the hall, that should go along with McGuire and Sosas display when they saved baseball after the strike. All three cases, thats where their hall of fame should stay and end.
