If Aaron Rodgers did not have to sit behind Favre

Would he have been as good as quick as a starter? Some say sitting behind Favre for three years prepared him better, but others say he was already that good(nvm the 6-10 record the first year).

Had Rodgers furthermore not been a packer would have been as good as he is now?

What sitting behind a veteran QB does is mainly mess with your lifetime stats. If Rodgers didn't sit behind Favre he'd have a lot more stats. Maybe another 10000+ yards passing, a bunch more TD's, etc. So if Rodgers plays long enough to start getting close to any lifetime records he'll probably come up short for losing those 3 years on the bench. Other QB's get lucky and start right away. Wilson and Luck were lucky enough to start from day one so they'll have a 10000 yard head start on guys like Rodgers when it's all said and done.

But would Rodgers have done what he did in 2009 in 2006?

Rodgers was the best QB in the 2005 draft even though Alex Smith was taken with the first pick and he did benefit from sitting behind Favre for three years.

Well it can NEVER hurt learning behind one of the best QB's of all time. How he would've done without Favre is IMPOSSIBLE to answer at this point.

I think he'd been fine without sitting on the bench. It wasn't like Farve was going out of his way to help him learn, rather the opposite , Peyton was very much like Farve in this regard. I bet Rodgers feels like spitting when ever anyone brings up Farve.

I've often wondered if Alex Smith would be the great QB out of that draft if the picks were reversed. Honestly with the 49ers the way they were constructed at that time Rodgers would've started right away and with a lot lesser team. Who knows what they both would be today?

Well Rodgers has talked in the past about how he used that time on the bench to improve his mechanics and become a better QB. So yes I do think the time helped him. I think he would have still been a good to great QB in this league but those first few years would have been a struggle as he found his way.

So he made the best of it and improved his mechanics. Pretty sure he would have done the same as a starter, only quicker, because there is nothing like actually doing it to get better.

Well to me this can go 2 ways though. We have seen very talented QB's that were playing with terrible teams that got ruined because they were thrown onto the battlefield way too soon. So maybe that 1st year Rodgers gets eaten alive and struggles to recover from a very tough 1st year in the league.

Were the Packers terrible back then? Nope, so I say no to your theory.

Stafford will own the passing yardage record when he's done.

Which is absofuckinglutely meaningless.

You must be remembering a different Packers team than me then. In 2005 when they drafted Aaron Rodgers they went 4-12 than year. Offensively they were a bottom half of the league offense. They finished 22nd in points per game and I think like 18th in total offensive yards. Brett Favre also had one of his worst years ever as a starter.

And Rodgers was actually thrown in a bad game in Baltimore and primetime and basically stunk.

Crazy Aaron Rodgers stat he has been sacked 306 times in only 119 starts for comparison Peyton Manning was sacked 303 times in 265 starts and the record is held by Farve sacked 525 times with 298 starts. If the Packers don't fix their o-line issues they're going to get Rodgers killed.

Rodgers sat because GB already had a good QB - and he learned from a good QB and also learned from Favre's mistakes. Now if Rodgers went to Cleveland or DC, he'd have started right away and might look more like RGIII or Johnny Manziel.....

I agree Harold but he was sitting behind a HOF QB that was still productive.

There is no question that a competent organization like Green Bay was good for him.
