I used to do those pigskin pickems and did pretty well. My basic system was pretty much, pick the home team most weeks, unless it is something just glaring like make sure to pick the Pats over the Dolphins and KC over Oakland and probably Philly over ATL. Another thing I would do (kind of early in the season for this) is if a team hasn't yet lost, don't bet against them until they lose. And don't pick with your heart, which means if you are a Bengals fan and really want them to win, don't feel bad about picking against them.
I basically picked like this and would usually come out top 5 in my groups.

The people that watch the sport the most always seem to do the worst at these things. I don't really know why. Maybe we try to get too clever?
