I'm a Chiefs fan and I think the guy got a bum deal in KC. The uncertainty within the coaching staff while he was in KC made his job much, much more difficult. He starts off with Weiss as his OC, then Haley fires him and takes over the OC role himself. Then in comes Bill Miur, then Haley gets fired and Brian Daboll takes over under Romeo Crennel. Four OC's, and two HC's in 4 years. Plus the Chiefs weren't exactly loaded with offensive firepower then either.

I don't think he's a great QB by any stretch but I also don't think there's anyway he's really as bad as he looked last season either.

I don't think Cassel has ever been a really good QB but I agree that he isn't godawful. To me, he is a solid back-up QB or maybe an adequate starter in the right system. Maybe things will work out somewhere but I doubt Minny is the place. That situation is not very good. I don't know how Peterson does it.

I find the coaching and OC comments telling. That has happened to a couple of other QB's. Most notably, the guy who took over in KC.. Alex Smith was going down as one of the biggest busts in history with the 49ers in no small part to do with a revolving door at OC and some bad HC's. Jay Cutler has also had no consistency at OC combined with a sub par O-line and mediocre receivers. Now these other 2 are 3-0 and looking pretty darn good.

I will be surprised if Cassel is much more effective than Ponder has been.

2 interesting facts about Cassel.

Only QB in NFL history to ever start a game, without ever starting a game in his college career.

When he signed the 1yr non-exclusive franchise tag offer from the Pats for 14.65mil in 2009..... it was (and still is) the highest 1yr NFL contract ever signed by an offensive player.

Myself and pretty much every 9ers fan I know are rooting for Alex Smith this year. I'm glad you are sending the love to your former QB.

Just heard some guy on the radio saying that some of the Vikes are actually happy Cassel is getting a shot.

Wouldn't be the first time that the backup QB on a winless team is unduly popular. Just sayin.
