and if you suck at hiring head coaches, might as well go back to the well with one of your most successful ones
JDR didn't deserve his fate, 1 year removed from a 12-4 season.
But, Gruden was a solid hire IMO.

Who gives a shit if it's a 10 year deal? I doubt either side has any intention of him being their HC 10 years. As long as he can get them into the playoffs consistently and maybe win a Super Bowl, it's money well spent.

The contract is backloaded.
Doesn't Chucky get a portion of ownership as well? What an absurd deal!Yep 10 years and $10 mil a year

Gruden's big contract must really piss off Bill Belichick.
Shame on youI thought you were smart Dirt. Guess I was wrong all these years. Disappointing
The same team who routinely drafted the fastest guy in the draft just because.Who signs a coach to a 10 yer deal?
Dilly dillyHe could be a good coach but there's a very important element to this.
When you go on mnf for eight years and become a total caricature of yourself, basically a joke, you really lose your respectability. Now he's going to be thrown back into the pit and he's going to have to go back to being a serious human being for a second.....and the players are going to have to buy into it
If I were a player i'd have a hard time taking him seriously after all the slobbering and over-the-top ridiculousness he's been saying on air for all these years and frankly this is a desperation move by a team that wants to do anything to be a "contender" in their qb's "prime".
If he does fail, it should be very entertaining so there's that. LOL
I don't think Bill will be applying for food stamps any time soon. If it becomes an issue he can just pawn a couple rings. No one will even know they're missing. If it does and he wants to stay coaching in NE, I'm fairly certain Kraft would sign bigger cheques.
