Hey guys the Hoop mock draft starts on Monday I signed up for the Fins any feedback is welcomed. Based on what I've seen from fellow Fins fan on here and espn it looks like WR, ILB, G, FS, CB and RB (power) seem to be the highest priorities.

Unless a stud falls at any position specifically at WR I think that the Fins may drop back a bit in the 1st and acquire another pick...and still get a position of need. The question is who would have to still be there at 14 for them not to trade back? Cooper, White, Parker and who else?

FlyerFinFan,

I'm sure that you"ll do a good job with the mock draft. You know the needs of the team. That said, there are certain players that have the talent to change a draft priority list. I doubt DT D Shelton slides to 14 yet if he does he's a talent to be considered. I say that because he has proven that he requires a double team. I have a good idea of what would happen if you pair him next to Suh with Wake & OV coming from the edges. It would be absolute havoc to opposing offenses. The Fins might win a Championship with that group. It could remind folks of the Ravens defense of 2000. The Fins would still need other quality picks but the Fins defense would be difficult to deal with. If you decide to trade back from 14 or from another spot here's the trade chart for you to use:

1 3,000 33 580 65 265 97 112 129 43 161 27 193 14.2

Thanks FOF I do have the trade chart and will only move back if all the needs or studs are gone. I hear you on a guy like Shelton as that would be sick that's for sure but WR is probably the smarter move if one of the 3 slide. Plus the other positions the grades go later in the 1st or 2nd so hard to pick a G for instance there unless Scherff falls as he can play any oline position and dominate. I'd prefer to pick an ILB instead of an OLB as Misi could move outside where he's better. Wayne's would be interesting as you can never have enough CB's but I'm hoping for some of the young guys to improve next year and that could bump them to 3-5 positions....I guess BPA in the first wouldn't be the worst this year!

RE a WR at 14: The Fins could get the next Calvin Johnson yet if Tannehill doesn't get adequate blocking from the Oline it won't matter. I tend to like the mauler type of OG's having watched a lot of SEC games where they tend to use a lot of power running. The Fins tend to look for more athletic OG's that can run faster. A good OG also has to be able to deal with the pass rush along with creating running lanes. The Fins have to deal with some of the best Dlines in the NFL in the AFC East. The Fins Oline will have to be solid for the Fins to have a chance to win. A big factor for the team is LT Albert's health. Hopefully he has a great recovery & James can move back to RT. I agree RE ILB being a big need. I'm not convinced about Misi in that spot RE his production or him staying healthy all season. If the Fins add the right ILB then they will have very good depth at OLB plus Misi & Sheppard can play ILB if needed. RE CB: It would be great if J Taylor earned a starting CB spot and played well and Davis also became more reliable yet seems risky to not add another starting CB since both those guys are unproven.

Yeah that's why unless one of the top WR's fall to them it's best to trade back as they can get those positions later in the first....or just go BPA and improve a position like DT. I think Scherff is the only G olinemen worth the pick the rest rank later in the draft so G could be had in the 3rd if an extra pick is acquired. Anyway that's my thought as they'll still fill a few more spots in FA that they don't in the draft. Otherwise I think that we're in agreement here.

Miami Dolphins select DeVante Parker WR Louisville

He slid and I think that he's the best option for the Fins if there so no reason to trade back. If a decent ILB is available in the 2nd that looks like a good pick. G's don't seem to be rated very highly...FA may be best bet.

Some fans are saying that any defensive position early is a waste as the Fins won't play them so G may be a smarter pick? I may try to trade back and get both ILB and G we'll see. Any suggestions welcome...I'll post who was drafted after first round completed. Very interesting...

FlyerFinFan,

I saw that you picked Tre Jackson. I think he's a solid 2nd round pick that would have a good chance to win a RG spot. I think he wont get bull rushed easily and he could help the running game to be even better.

Yeah I actually traded back and got a 6+7 in return for 2 spots! I was a little worried that G's would go and there was only 2 decently ranked one's left before a drop off so I didn't feel comfortable moving too far back. I'll post the rest of the 1st and 2nd rounds up to where we're at. People are pretty pumped at how this is going...I'd be happy with Miami right now if this happened!

1.28.28: Denver: Cameron Erving - C - Florida State
1.29.29: Indianapolis: DJ Humpries - OT - Florida
1.30.30: Green Bay: Malcom Brown - DT - Texas
1.31.31: Washington: Arik Armstead - DT - Oregon
1.32.32: New England: Eddie Goldman - DT - Florida State
ROUND 2

2.3.35: Oakland: Jordan Phillips - NT - Oklahoma
2.4.36: Jacksonville: TJ Clemmings - OT - Pittsburgh
2.5.37: N.Y. Jets: Tevin Coleman - RB - Indiana
2.6.38: Washington: Denzel Perryman - ILB - Miami
2.7.39: Chicago: Owamagbe Odighizuwa - DE - UCLA
2.8.40: N.Y. Giants: Jake Fisher - OT - Oregon

Needs left to fill are ILB, FS, RB and CB. Fins don't have a 3rd round pick not sure if worth trading into the 3rd. We have 4th, two 5th and 6th and a 7th. Could do it but more picks may be smarter. Any other needs? I'd just go BPA on remaining positions needed.

FlyerFinFan,

I think it could be wise to consider moving up if you see a talent that you really like that is available at either FS, CB or possibly ILB. I don't think you'd need to move up to get a power RB. There is depth at that position. More picks is great but the Fins need a few more potential starters at those positions of need.

I'll see what I can do but not easy I'd have to move a 4th and 5th to get to the 3rd round. I think there's a good FS left have to check what's left. If anyone gets a chance to look go for it and let me know on here. Cheers!

It can get too costly to move up RE picks. It may be best to wait if you don't get a good trade offer.

Yeah I looked at the table and I'd had to give a 4th and two 5ths..too much. Doesn't seem worth it. I'll find some needs with what we got. If you have some players you like let me know.

FlyerFinFan,

I have a few suggestions for mid to late picks. Some of these guys were brought in for workouts by the Fins. Most if not all of these guys are probably still available but you may want to double check the Mock draft picks that have been made. FL Atlantic CB D' Joun Smith would give competition for J Taylor for the outside CB spot. Smith at the very least would be solid depth. Smith can also play inside at CB. Either D. Eskridge or G. Holliman. Either could be what the team needs at FS. I'd probably pick Eskridge. At RB I think K. Hilliard of LSU may have moved up higher in the draft due to his workout. If he is there for the Fins at the right spot he could be a solid choice. Tyler Varga of Yale runs with power & could be a short yardage TD machine for the Fins. He can also be called upon to block as needed. Varga would also add to the ST unit. Interestingly the Fins only brought in one ILB for a visit (Perryman of UM) The Fins must really believe in Misi, Sheppard, and Jake Knott because they had more visits from OLB's. I hope the Fins are right about the Fins current talent on the roster at ILB and/or they aren't looking to convert a college OLB into a starting ILB.

Okay picks in Miami Dolphins select Ty Sambrailo OT/OG Colorado State. Went BPA and this will strengthen the Fins line depth for years to come as he can play G and T. Not disappointed one bit...but just missed Josh Shaw CB/S who could have filled that void. We'll get another S in the 5th....there was also some very good pass rushers available but hard to take them at this point as that's a luxury.

Sambrailo is an ideal OT for a zone blocking scheme which is what the Fins use. I think it would be best to pick the best available safety with the next pick unless you see a more talented CB.
