The kid of destiny was not to be denied.

Anyone know what the stat is on the superstition? I wonder if anyone has ever tracked it.

I know Alfie picked it up and the Sens collapsed. Trevor Linden grabbed it in 94. I remember because I thought; "WHY TREVOR, WHY?"

Actually, Alfie didn't pick it up. It was Redden that took it off the stand and started skating around with it...

Crosby might have started a new Eastern tradition though. That is if the Flyers can go on to win the cup.

The worst part of that was the "19-40" was one of the greatest chants in sports history...

LOL.

I remember Opening day at Oriole Park in 2004 we were in a section behind a ton of Sox fans. They started the "Let's GO RED SOX! clap clap clapclapclap thing.

So I started with "Bil-ly Buck-ner *clap clap clapclapclap*
and "nine-teen eight-een *clap clap clapclapclap*.

My whole section joined in.

Nearly started a riot.

Sucks that I can't do that no more.

I am pretty sure Mario skated with it each time he won the East

Yeah, I've been trying to find out who touched it and lost and most I've found is Crosby, Lemieux, Yzerman and Stevens all did and won.

Can't find anything on whether their opponents did too. Except that Stevens and Yzerman both did in 95.

Maybe if I'm bored at work I'll try and figure it out.

Probably. But I have a feeling their SCF opponents did the same. Someone had to win. I don't think this tradition started until around the mid 90s. Whoever started it, I don't believe did so because of a superstition but moreso to send a message as if to say "This isn't the one we want". But over the years it seems to have developed into a superstition. With that in mind, I say go ahead and touch it and show everyone that you have more confidence in your team than some silly superstition. That being said, I think Chicago will beat Philly either way.

crosby touched it last year. richards picked it up with authority. i did not think he would pick it up.

You gotta wonder if he planned it. Lindros refused to touch it and the Flyers got steamrolled in 97. Probably figured he couldn't do worse. :)

i really did not think he would. it seemed like he knew what he was going to do with it. reporters asked him and he said, we didnt really do anything normal this year.
