BUCHAREST, Romania - Simona Halep's rise up the WTA Rankings will continue two weeks from now, on Monday, August 11, as she will move past Li Na and become the new World No.2.
Neither Li nor Halep will be playing at the Rogers Cup in Montréal next week - Li has pulled out due to a right knee injury, and Halep was never entered. But while Halep has no points to defend as she didn't play it last year, Li made it all the way to the semifinals of the Premier-level tournament last year.
Once those points fall off, she will dip down and surrender World No.2 to WTA Rising Star Halep.
