I believe this was the case as well which is why I'm not too critical of Roman this game.

We went super creative in the first couple of series and after we scored 17 points it seemed like it was all vanilla after that.

Felt like Roman was throwing a few nuggets out there to give something defenses have to work on but mostly keeping things close to the vest.

i use to believe that harbs/roman would hold back on offense but time n time again/season after season its too redundent....

Kap n Roman need to improve since GB might be a scorefest...

Yeah, I'm not opposed to divisions and a division winner making the playoffs, but I don't see any reason why a team should host a home game simply because they win a bad division. The teams with the best records should host the home games.

If Kap goes to one of these athlete camps instead of working with a passing guru over the summer, I'm going to be pissed. Guy needs to work on his footwork, throwing motion, and reading the field. Any time beyond the minimum spent in the weight room or working on his speed is an absolute waste IMO. Work on your weaknesses.

I agree and I hope I'm reading reports about him working on mechanics and not running track with Olympic athletes. I suppose in his slight defense the Read Option wasn't nearly used as much as expected this season.

But He has a complete body of work to look back on and clear areas he needs to improve on and work on.

The footwork to me is the primary thing he needs to fix and if he can fix that everything else I feel will fall into place.

Reading the field is something I suspect will come more from experience (and hopefully better pass play design) but I'm sure he could do with a few less bench presses and a little more film study.

In general I agree that we're not holding back on offense in week 14 or early on in the season but in Week 17 with the playoffs locked up with the difference between the 5th and 6th seed not majorly important I do think we turtled on offense today.

What we did in the first couple of series was working and we completely stopped doing it after we got the big lead and it just seemed like we went with our base plays and stopped trying to exploit things in their defense.

And trust me I've been one of the more vocal critics on Roman so I'm not trying to make excuses for him.

Gore averaged 1.1 yards per carry today. Here are the other times in his career where Gore had a 1.9 average or worse and the team's result:

2013 vs. Seattle - 9 for 16 yards (1.8 avg) - Lost

Today vs. Arizona - 13 carries for 14 yards (1.1 avg) - Won

2011 vs. NYG - 6 carries 0 yards (0.0 avg) - Won (Gore left the game early with an injury)

2011 vs. STL - 7 carries for 9 yards (1.3 avg) - Won (Gore sat out the 2nd half with what many thought was an injury but Gore said he wasn't hurt)

2010 vs. TB - 12 carries for 23 yards (1.9 avg) - Lost

2009 vs. AZ - 22 carries for 30 yards (1.4 avg) - Won

2008 vs. NYG - 11 carries for 11 yards (1.0 avg) - Lost

2008 vs. DAL - 14 carries for 26 yards (1.9 avg) - Lost

The 49ers are 4-4 when Gore rushes for an avg of 1.1 or worse in his career.

Hope he is not worn out. He has not done much the last few games.

From the 49ers:

Bowman is just the 2nd player in the #NFL this season and the first 49er since 2009 to register 1 INT, 1 FF & 1 FR in the same game

Still would like to see more Hunter and James, James esp on screen passes. He can be dangerous on the outside and in space.

With all the Homers we have on this board I'm stunned that we aren't hearing more praise about Patton. One of the few good performances on the day. A pleasant surprise. I thought we would have had at least 5 threads about him by now.

I really want to see more of Hunter. I think he can be an extremely effective change-of-pace back, and more. He's far more effective inside than James, is very dangerous in space, and has a burst that Gore just can't come close to replicating. I was hoping that a silver lining of the Miller injury would be seeing more of these guys, but it doesn't really look like it to date. Let's hope they've been working like crazy on screens, but are saving them for the playoffs....

Patton's catch was huge. And he showed some nice wiggle on the end-around. He still shows some rookie jitters, but the kid seems like a baller. Hopefully he can continue to develop. Lord knows we could use a semi-competent third receiver.

Had one other pretty good reception as well. Did more than Baldwin and Manningham combined would have.
