Game Thread - Spain vs Netherlands - World Cup

This should be the best game of the day. A lot of people counting Netherlands out and not advancing to the round of 16. I think they will, but lose this match.

I want the Dutch to win the World Cup just about every year I watch. They are too good not to have one yet.

At the high school I worked at, there was a PE teacher from Spain. He said he played high school with and against a couple of the guys on the Spanish world cup team. I do believe him because he doesn't overdo it when he talked about them. I don't remember who they were though. He said one of them was one of the better ones though.

Pretty good game so far. Spanish goalie got a save and Spain also missed a good shot.

Is it just me or am I seeing a lot more flopping in soccer than I do in the NBA? It seems like every time their body gets touched, they fall down holding their knee, stomach, or head waiting for a call. No call, they get up and act like nothing has happened. Same thing as if there is a call.

Neither team wearing traditional colors, but I dig both of the kits, especially the Dutch navy blue.

South/Central American countries are notorious for diving. There should be fewer once you start watching more Euro/American/African games.

As a life long soccer player, there is something about a team rocking 1-11 for their starting lineup. All class.

I love how the Dutch guy was like "I didn't touch him" and replay clearly shows he pulled on the body.

Spain scored a goal off a penalty kick on the 28th minute. Spain 1-0

Great save by the Dutch goalie at the 43rd minute. Spanish guy gave a nice touch to lob over the goalie but the goalie got it.

Then in the 44th minute, Netherlands got a headbutt goal.

There goes my O/U if I want Spain to win. I only put 5 for Under, but put 25 for Spain.
