Ga Tech may not need a 6th win if all of the bowl slots can't be filled.

Two 6 win teams with 2 FCS wins were allowed in last season (Army, S. Alabama).
Two 5 win teams were allowed in last season based on high Academic Progress Rate (N. Texas, Miss St)

There are 40 bowl games this season, therefore 80 teams.

50 teams have already qualified with 6 or more wins. So 30 slots are still available.

Ga Tech is 16th overall in APR.

1. Air Force (4-5) -
t4. Duke (4-5)
t4. Minnesota (4-5)
t4. Vanderbilt (4-5)
7. Navy (5-3)
9. Louisville (5-4)
t11. Illinois (2-7)
t11. Maryland (4-5)
t16. Ga Tech (4-5)
t16. Mid Tenn St (4-5)
t16. Utah (5-4)

Couple of items.

Army had 7 total wins in the reg season last year. They beat the required 5 FBS schools.
So Alabama was given a waiver because of LSU buying them out and they added the school,
Presbyterian, that UF bought out

There were 3 schools that got in without qualifying. The two you listed plus Hawaii. Hawaii
had 6 wins, BUT they played a 13-game schedule. They needed 7 wins.

There ARE 40 bowls this year, but there were 41 last year. 1 of the bowls is a play-in bowl,
the NC game. One new bowl has been added this year...The Frisco Bowl. Two bowls have folded
from last year. The Miami Beach Bowl and the Poinsettia Bowl in San Diego.

Only 78 teams are needed to be bowl eligible.

Thru last night (Thursday) 54 teams were in and 22 are out. 24 spots remain open and there are
54 teams fighting for those spots. 19 of those teams have 5 wins right now. (They need 1 win)
On the other side of the coin there are 12 teams with 6 losses. (1 loss and they're out)

If you factor in those teams, 73 are in and 34 are out. That leaves 23 teams fighting for 5 spots.
For the first time in 3 years, there will be enough teams bowl eligible.

Tech needs another game or they will stay home
