Georgia Tech is reported to be trying to get another game scheduled to replace the canceled UCF game to get bowl eligible. If not they have to win 2 of 3 from Virginia Tech, Duke and Georgia to get there.
Ga Tech is very limited in trying to schedule a game for 12/2.
They can't just go out and buy a 1-AA, like Indiana did earlier. They must play an FBS
school or the scenario of having to win 2 games vs VPI, Duke and UGA, will still exist.
Tech only has 3 wins currently vs FBS schools (4 overall). The NCAA allows for a 6 win
team to be bowl eligible, with the caveat that 5 of those wins are vs FBS opponents.
Scheduling a 1-AA, does GT no good.
Here's their options...UTSA, Houston, USF, UCF and Memphis. Those are the only teams
currently scheduled to play only 11 games this year. Most are in contention for their
league title game. I guess they could try to have a scenario where they would play
the loser of the USF/UCF game on 12/2. Memphis will have to lose both of their
remaining games to not be in the AAC title game. *They hold the head-to-head tiebreaker
over Houston.
The only other possibilities for them are against...Fresno St, San Diego State or Colorado
State. Those are schools that played at Hawaii this season and did not schedule the allowed
13th game given to schools tht play At Hawaii. Fresno/San Diego St are currently battling for
a spot in the MWCCG. So the loser could opt to play on 12/2.
Tech's choices are very limited. The best one's are UTSA, Houston and Colorado State.
Colorado State and Houston are already bowl eligible, so they could care less. UTSA
has 5 wins with games left vs UAB, Marshall and La Tech. There isn't a game they can't
win, but there are no gimmee's. I'd call them, if they'd said no...then I'd get a calculator
and see how deep my pockets can go, to get anybody else.
