Sometimes you just have to realize that this is as close as you'll get.
I still remember the last time the Browns won the championship, before they renamed the game for a kid's plaything.

OU's overall defensive talent level is not high enough to realistically expect to win National Championships in a conference where high scoring offenses run you ragged several times each year and then you need to win TWO games to get the championship trophy. We got lucky this year when our 3 toughest games at the end of the season were played against teams without their starting QB's. I can't believe our defense would have let us run the table if that hadn't happened. We can nit pick the details but the #1 reason the Sooners are not going to win another NC under Bob Stoops is he refuses to fire his insane brother who is a mediocre D coordinator. I was embarrassed sitting there in the stadium watching our guys get stood up tackle after tackle. But the worst was seeing our D just stand there when Clemson kicked a field goal because they were shell shocked worrying about a trick play. That is weak sauce.

At the start of the year, I don't think anybody thought OU would 1) have 11 wins; 2) win the B12 and 3) make it to the playoffs. We overachieved, but were not to be champs. Our O line was young and suspect. Our D line was not complete.

Yes, we've had disappointments. Which program hasn't? We've proven we're the best in the B12, just as we were in the B8. Going back to 2000 season....

2001 - won Orange Bowl (NCG)
2002 - won Cotton Bowl
2003 - won Rose Bowl
2005 - won Holiday Bowl
2009 - won Sun Bowl
2011 - won Fiesta Bowl
2011 - won Insight Bowl
2014 - won Sugar Bowl

Sure, would be nice to have a couple NC's in there. The Orange, Cotton, Rose, Fiesta and Sugar isn't a bad resume!

I think the B12 wasn't as good as some thought this year. The way the schedules lined up, with a tough November for the B12 powers, it added drama, but the reality is that the B12 has a way to go before they can think about securing another NC.

In OU's last four games we averaged giving up nearly 30.75 points/game. And that was playing against three teams (Baylor, TCU and Okie Jr.) who didn't even have their starting QB's. Our offense did great this year. Our defense was just lucky we didn't get shelled in conference play at the end of the year like we did in the Orange Bowl. But Bob will fire a coordinator if it's obvious a change needs to be made like after last year. We all know he will get rid of his brother any day now to start fixing the defense, right? Right? Waiting. Waiting. :tsk:

Micro-aggression

nah, being a Denver fan, I've seen what happens to da Browns when they face Denver. 2 years in a row my Donks tore their hearts out.

Course, the next week we got out hearts torn out and stomped on in SB games, LOL!~

Yeah. It must suck to win the conference and be selected to go to the CFP. Much better to underperform all year and get your shit pushed in at a lower tiered bowl.

that's a good point: making it to the final four is a success. Not winning sucks, but this is a new era. Cant use past years results; this is year two of the new paradigm.

I think this is what a lot of people are missing. It's harder than ever to win a NC now. You need to win your Conference Championship Game (except the Big XII where you damn near need to go undefeated) plus win a semi-final play off game and then win a Championship Game. That's three wins in a row against top competition. You have to be able to run a gauntlet now.

Unfortunately, OU has 2 leaving early. Sanchez announced yesterday he was going pro and I just heard that Dom Alexander is also leaving early. That hurts, no doubt. Figured Sanchez was but had not heard any rumblings about Alexander.

I wish them both well in their pro endeavors.
