Various media outlets are reporting that the Maple Leafs and Devils may be talking. Darren Dreger of TSN reported a few days ago that the Leafs may be willing to take on some salary if the Devils included draft picks in a trade. Meanwhile other media outlets are saying that the Devils and Maple Leafs are working on a "hockey trade."

My take: I don't know if anything will come of this but if I were to guess who the Leafs would actually take, I would guess Dainius Zubrus (No chance the Leafs are getting Zach Parise or Travis Zajac, so please don't bring it up).

To get rid of Rolston's cap hit would be the best thing to happen.

i've really thought all along we have mainly 2 trading partners.

the isles and leafs. while the leafs are cap strapped too they have the ability to send some guys (namely finger) to the minors to bury salary, and i sounds like they would like to do that anyway from everything i hear so they may have more cap space than it would appear.

both teams would be open to top 6 fw's or at least players capable of playing in those roles, and both are looking for players that would improve them NOW, esp the leafs as they are desperate IMO to make the playoffs

Brian Rolston & a 1st round pick.

To the Devils
Trent Hunter & a 3rd round pick

This would save the Devils 3 million dollars this season. The downside for NJ is Hunter has 3 years at 2 million per remaining on his contract. It's a fair deal under the circumstances. I don't think it will happen though.

the other thing is that trade would have been far more likely if the devils fine didn't include a first round pick...

if we were to make that trade we'd have one 1st round pick in the next 4 years.
