hope the 49ers can keep him. a lot of you guys are 49ers fans. Do you think Gore is a hall of famer? I personally think he is. 11,000 yards rushing averaging 4.5 yards per carry. He was never the top 3 running back in the nfl but I think be consistently good for a long period of time gets him in.

Yes he is a HOF. If he doesn't make it he will just miss it.

I'd put Ricky Watters in before Gore. They had about the same number of rushing yards, but Watters has many more receiving yards. Watters had about 15 more touchdowns in the same number of seasons and a much better post season performance.

Yeah but gore played on a lot of bad 49ers teams and still succeeded.

San Fran has been pretty good these last few years.

Yeah the last three and one of the league worst for the first 3 or 4 and not much better until Harbaugh got to town. If Gore played on the teams that Watters did his numbers would be even better.

I'll still go with Watters. His teams weren't all that great either.

The 1991 49ers were 10-6, 1992 49ers were 14-2, 1993 49ers were 10-6, 1994 49ers were13-3 which was his final year in San Fransisco so yeah those 49ers teams were much better and won a Super Bowl. Eagles were 10-6, 10-6, and 6-9-1. The Seahawks were 8-8, 9-7,6-10, and 9-7. So if anything in his prime he was on very good or good teams and Gore was not so like I said Gore's numbers would be even better if he were on those 49ers teams or even the Eagles teams compared to the 49ers when he was drafted.

Of course, one could make the argument that a Hall of Famer makes his teams good.

Of course one could make that argument but clearly you aren't a 49ers fan and don't know how bad those teams were when Gore was drafted. The owners pretty much let everyone walk and they had an expansion team and even then I think most expansion teams are better than those 49ers no matter how good you are that is impossible to overcome.

Also with 11 guys on the field football is very much a team sport and without some good players around you it doesn't matter how good you are.

Personally I think they both should be in the hall of fame but that is me.

Kind of like this year. 49ers going back to their old ways. At least they got WR T. Smith. Very happy with that move. Young, Fast and good hands. Take it over Crabtree.

Ricky Watters is a MUCH better all purpose back than Gore, somebody prove me otherwise please...with the ability to bump his head in the middle like Gore.

Give me Ricky "running" Watters all day, every day over Frank Gore. Plus he is Irish....so that works in his favor too.

I agree he's better all purpose and yes Ricky was a Notre Dame player but I don't think he's any better than Gore and I do feel Gore's rushing numbers would be much better had he played on the caliber of teams Watters did.

Not unless he finds the fountain of youth.

If he retired today he'd be 20th in career rushing yards, 42nd in rushing TDs, never won a ring, never had a first team All Pro, and as you say...never considered a top 3 player at his position. Textbook Hall of Very Good, but not HOF.

This is the only point I've seen so far that might suggest Gore is better than Watters. If that is only thing people can come back with then I'm not sold. Somebody give me something else, until then I'm not buying it.

Well Gore is going to have a longer career, has more rushing yards and will create a larger gap, he'll never catch up to Watters in receiving yards but his numbers are respectable and the TD margin will likely close before the end of his career. Watters stats after his 11 year career 2622 Attempts for 10,643 yards rushing, 78 Rushing TD's and 4.1 YPC, he had 467 receptions for 4,248 yards 13 TD's with an average of 9.1 YPR, he also had 43 fumbles with 24 lost. Gore in his 10 year career has 2442 attempts for 11,073 yards for 64 TD's and an average of 4.5 YPC, he has 342 receptions for 2,883 yards 11 TD's and an average of 8.4 YPC, he also has 34 fumbles 25 lost. Gore has 8 1,000 yard seasons to Watters 7 in less time playing.
