It's about time. Beamer should have hung it up a couple of years ago.

I think it was clearly time. He just didn't have it any more and you can't really blame him given his age and his health. It's bittersweet to see him go but its for the best. And its not like he's going anywhere. He lives in the community and will always be a big part of VT and Blacksburg. I'm hoping we can become bowl eligible (keep the streak alive!) and send Beamer out right.

An expected announcement at some point this season following the ECU and Pitt games along with the prior 3 years. Beamer is and will always be synonymous with Virginia Tech football, but it was indeed time to pass the torch to a new leader that can hopefully "right the ship" and get VT back in contention for ACC and National Championships. He built the program to national relevance and the opening will be very attractive to several coaches that could be successful.

I'm not as well versed as many other Hokies regarding possible replacements, but we need a shot of excitement and with the new AD, I think he'll make a good hire for the future of the program, much like he did with Buzz.

Just don't choose Jeff Brohm. I'd like for him to be our candidate when UVA finally does what they should've done at least a couple years ago, fire idiot Mike London.

props to him for finishing the season out unlike the rest of these bitch coaches retiring midway through the season. how many speeches did these coaches give about team and playing together only to quit on their team

RichRod to VT very possible. It's getting to be that time for him to jump ship again.

Definitely bittersweet. Saying goodbye* to a legend, but also hoping for the promise of reaching the top.

*While he may be retiring, Beamer is a major part of the university and I don't see him leaving/moving. He's a local and while he may spend more of these colder months a little further south, I believe he'll always consider Blacksburg home. Which in turn could be a blessing/curse for the new hire.

There is indeed history between our AD and RR, but considering the negative feedback with alumni regarding that rumor already, I don't think he's in the top 3-5 names our AD is seriously considering. If he does get an offer, it would be due to whiffing on a few other candidates. At least that's my thought on the matter.

Frank Beamer was a good guy. Congrats to Va Tech fans, but don't throw trash on this guy on the way out the door.

He did a swell job and deserves some respect.

I can definitely see that. I think that if Frank's successor doesn't have that immediate success, they could very easily turn on him in no time. I compare it to The Price is Right (not sure if it's a good analogy or not, but I'll go with it). Bob Barker was a legend and whomever it was that was going to replace him, whether they were really good or really bad, was never going to live up to his standards and I think that being the next HC after Beamer will be the same way.

If Whit's target board was the Top 25 poll, RichRod would not get a birth in the playoff. Let's say that.

Beyond the disgruntled fans, with are less than stellar track record of recruiting and Whit having full knowledge of how much it matters, I can't think RR would be a legit contender for the job.

So, Whit Babcock proved he keeps hints really close to the vest when he hired Buzz Williams who nobody expected and was an 'out kick the coverage' hire based on the program reputation, history and current situation.

That being said, I have heard a lot of heat around three particular coaches: Chad Morris, Rich Rodriguez and Justin Fuente. If I had to put percentages on the heat it would be like this:

Morris 50%
RichRod 25%
Fuente 15%
Other 10%
