Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) tweeted at 2:27 PM on Wed, Mar 05, 2014:
And there goes @CortFinnegan with the news the Rams have released him. Classy send off message from him, too.

Ok..... HERE WE GO BOYS!!!! It is obviously an alternate world for Jeff Fisher. If he is letting go of folks he is loyal to, it probably means he will draft an OT in round 1. :suds:

Also probably means that we might go after Verner AND Bryd!!

Jim Thomas just tweeted:

"And to clarify. Finnegan has been told he is being released. No paperwork has been sent to the league office as of yet."

Looks like the team gets even younger.

More from Jim Thomas:

"Immediate cap savings is $4 million on Finnegan for Rams."

"But cap savings could grow due to offset language on $3 million roster bonus Finnegan was due third day of league year."

"If Finnegan signs with another team for 2014, whatever he makes in '14 counts as additional cap savings."

"So if Finnegan signs for $2M elsewhere Rams get additional $2M of cap space. If he signs for $1M, it's $1M more cap space, etc."

Finnegan was due 10 mill in 2014, we save 4 mill by cutting him but we eat 6 mill in dead money. There is always a chance that we could re-sign him to a lower deal. We'll see.

up next Scott Wells/ Harvey Dahl..........

It was already reported that Wells will not be cut, Dahl might however.

Do you have a link? Everything that I am reading says we will cut him. Scott Wells is due $6.5 mill. If we did cut him we would save $4.5 mill but we would eat $2 mill. in dead money.

Harvey Dahl is due $4 mill. If he's cut we save $4 mill and there isn't any dead money for Dahl.

Awesome news! Now we have to release Pead, Dahl and Wells. I might keep Wells tho if he can restructure.

I wouldn't be against signing him at a lower price.......much lower.

Oh and this might be a sign of Saffold resigning too....Making room for FA signings......exciting times!

Getting rid of Pead won't do much except make people happy. He is only owed 1.6 million I believe

Good, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. Keep freeing up that cap space KD!

Boy... its tough to believe a lot of this stuff. Its all speculation at this point. But IMO it make perfect sense to cut Wells because he is 33 yrs old. He is due 6.5 mill and he is coming off a major leg injury(tibula) and we do have some depth at center in Tim Barnes and Barrett Jones. Tim Barnes played well when Wells went down.

I wouldn't mind keeping him around with a restructured deal. He knows it and the Rams know he's not worth his weight in gold. He's been injured 40% of the games. Thats huuuuge, and is among the highest paid centers in the league. If Wells is smart it restructure and help these young guys learn the ropes. I think Barnes can be a fine center in this league if he continues to work.

Well I think Jones will be playing Guard next year, hopefully in place of SuckitChrisWilliams. So you'll have 3 guys who know how to play Center.

Rams fans don't be laying down jack on Cortland taking a deal with the Rams. His reported eye problems are over from what I've heard. The guy is a talent at CB and there will be a lot of takers in this league. Too bad for the Rams too. We have young options in our secondary (save the safety position) and this made one Finnegan expendable. Don't be surprised if he is balling on another team next year.

You just can't teach some things (talent) and you can't play around others (eye injury).

I hope he gets paid nicely then. Would be nice to remove as much of his dead money as possible.

So we cut Finnegan and that means we draft a LT? :noidea:

Just wondering. Lol

Don't think Finnegan is worth 10 million. That was smart

Yeah...this, I guess.

Even when Finnegan was playing at 100%, he was overpaid. Thus makes you wonder if we are going to overpay Verner to fill his spot.
