I'll keep a running tally of which teams have qualified to Brazil 2014.

Per this last round of qualifiers in June, so far we have these teams:

Brazil - Host
Australia
Iran
Korea Republic
Japan

USA should be qualifying very shortly at the next round of qualifying in September

The most shocking thing about these FIFA rankings is that Columbia is 3rd.

I just don't get how Mexico is still over us.

We just had a great month while Mexico had a shitty month. If I'm not mistaken they finished the month of June at 2-3-1

Mexico is more talented but the USA is just clicking right now. I'm sure over time the numbers will be closer, especially if we beat them in the next qualifier

I'm pretty sure if we outperform them in the gold cup which starts on sunday btw, we will be ahead of them in the next fifa rankings.

BTW we have a friendly vs Guatemala tonight with the Gold Cup Roster. It comes on the NBC Sports Network

I doubt that the Gold Cup will have much effect on the rankings. When it falls in the year before the World Cup, the better teams in Concacaf use it as audition for for the senior team.

It'll still affect the ranking points, though. I think the coefficient for these games (or any confederation championship finals tournament) is 2.5, while the Confed Cup was 3.0. So they are only slightly less weighted. Of course, playing against only Concacaf competition won't help the numbers...

The 8 seeds for the Cup have been announced. Brazil, Argentina, Columbia, Uruguay (if they beat Jordan in the playoff), Germany, Spain, Switzerland, and Belgium.

This might be good news for the US. Several of the seeds look beatable, especially Columbia, Uruguay, Switzerland and Belgium. Problem is, is that several really great teams are not seeded and if the US gets mixed up in a "group of death," our chances of advancing are minimized. Imagine getting Italy, Netherlands, England, Portugal etc. The African teams have improved and there is always Australia and Japan.

I have hope, but it still will be tough to make it to the round of 16.

If we get Aus or Japan I'd be good with that. Just as long as we don't have to play Ghana again

The US with say Columbia or Uruguay as the top seed, a team from Africa and one from Europe. Maybe Bosnia Hersh.

I would go with Switzerland as the top seed, Australia, and a team from Africa not named Ghana of Ivory COast

Remember, some of the groups have to have a 2nd Euro country. Several bad choices possible, like Italy, England, Netherlands, Portugal, France.

Disagree on Belgium. They look to be a final 8 team at this point. They absolutely hammered us in the friendly we played.

Haven't seen them play lately. Just basing this on their recent past history.

So here are 3 WC draws simulator for the USA

Simulator 1-Brazil, USA, Ivory Coast, and Ukraine- Actually don't think this is group is that bad outside of Brazil. 4 or 5 points should get you out of the group.

Simulator 2-Uruguay, Netherlands, Algeria, and USA- This is a tough group as I can easily see us losing to both Uruguay and Netherlands. Probably would need at least 5 points to get out of the group

Simulator 3-Italy, Columbia, Cameroon, and USA- Another ridiculous group with 2 top teams where we would need at least 5 points to advance.

So I decided to do 3 more to see how it comes out

Simulator 4- Argentina, Ivory Coast, USA, and Bosnia-Herzegovina-WOW..I simulated the standings and they have us winning the group with 5 points lol by scoring 1 goal in 3 games. Two 0-0 draw and a 1-0 win over Ivory Coast.

Simulator 5- Belgium, USA, Greece, and Ivory Coast. They have us and Ivory Coast advancing with 5 points each

Simulator 6- Columbia, USA, Nigeria, and France. Once again they have us winning the group this time with 7 points

Not Found That is the website if you guys want to have some fun with the simulator

Simulator 5-
