I wouldn't argue your point about the bottom half and teams having a battle every nite. As for those Hawkeyes , we wish them the best. They used to be there all the time and should be there all the time. We commend you for hangin in there.

I am almost 37 and work with a bunch of 24-30 year old guys. Trying to explain to them that in the 80's and early 90's Iowa Basketball WAS HUGE and football was pretty much an afterthought is pretty tough. They arent old enough to remember the really good Iowa teams from that era so Im hoping we have turned the corner and are FINALLY back on the right track. I remember in 1998 all the fans were SOOO happy we were getting rid of Tom Davis as coach ( as he came off a S16 team ).... That was our last S16 :( LOL. I guess its the old " Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it" adage.

it is crazy how things change. UCLA looks to be more of a football than a basketball school these days whereas syracuse used to be a FB school where BB was an afterthought

Yeah I remember in 2007 when ESPN and Sagarin ranked the top CBB programs of all time and Iowa was like 8th or 10th and all the guys at work were like WTF!!??? LOL. I guess they didnt realize that there were decades before the 2000's. Jeez.

8th or 10th???????

no offense but i am not seeing that at all

3 FFs (none since the tourny went to 64 teams)
zero national titles
40th on the all time wins list (and the 7th worst winning percentage among teams in the top 50 of that list)

that is a big WTF

I think iowa in that time has a lot of similarities with missouri right now. Perceived as a big BB school but doesn't have the trophy case to back it up.

Lute Olson really got things going at Iowa. He started off that nice run and Davis kept it going. Something like 15 or 16 appearances in a 20 year stretch, I think.

Oh hell yeah it was too high. Top 20 for sure but not 8th or 10th but my point was that people didnt realize how much traditionally stronger the BB program was the the football program.

Probably too high, but think 2007, not 2014. At that time, the number of tourney appearances in the previous 3 decades was on par with elite programs.

In the last 7 years, no tourney appearances, a lot has changed for the state of Iowa bb. As stated though, things are looking back on track.

Also to be fair the list was done in 2007 so Im sure we were higher on the wins list and % 6 years ago before the clusterfuck that was the Lickliter years. LOL.

holy shit that was a while ago when SU was considered a football school. I'm talking abt way back not the McPhearson yrs of the 90's or whatever. I remember the day Boeheim was hired. Roy Danforth left SU to go to Tulane. Roll that one around your mouth a few times. There were yrs the people in Syracuse were howling for Boeheim to get canned. It went on for a long time. I remember when he interviewed w/Ohio State and that changed everything. There wasn't much said about firing Boeheim after that. The only reason he wasn't fired back then is because the AD at the time was Jake Crouthamel. He never fired any coach in any sport while AD at SU. THAT is the only reason Boeheim is still there. I'll tell you I've been his biggest supporter anywhere even during those lousy yrs of losing game after game in the last 30 seconds and 'Cuse still having 2 timeouts!

The Big 10's consistency throughout the decades yielded some pretty surprising results in Sagarin's numbers.
