lolz at all the "ooo0000 Elvis" huggers.

Yeah, Elvis put 'rock & roll' on the mainstream map, per se, was talented on stage (for the time) blazing hip swangz & gyrations for the girls to oogle & parents to be shocked.

Didn't write his own music, had an above average gospel-type voice with a few rock/roll hits in the beginning. He wasn't all that, beyond being 'the trail blazer', compared to the many real rock vocalists that came after him.
The Madonna of the 50s. Well, maybe that’s not totally fair. Madonna did write some of her own lyrics...

Elvis' popularity is what made those later singers possible.

That album is a treasure along with More American Graffiti. In my regular rotation
Jerry Lee was the only thing that kept Jerry Lee from being bigger than Elvis. I’m still a big fan, and his lone appearance on the Grand Ole Oort is one of the most underrated moments in music history.

The first and the last artist to say “motherfucker” on the Opry stage.

Confused as whether this is a favorite rock singer thread, or an Elvis sucks thread.

Well, the Op listed Glenn Campbell as a favorite rock singer, so all bets were off after that

If not for Elvis, there never would have been a Monkees

Yeah...marrying his 13 year old cousin was not the smartest move on his part.

nobody's being an elvis hugger, just acknowledging his greatness and contributions.

being a critic is the easiest thing in the world, especially regarding someone who at their peak @60 years ago.

True, but in his defense, she looked almost 14.

Yeah, I get all that.

But, he really wasn't all that, except for being the novelty item of the time as a trail blazer, as I stated.

Compare him to a lot of those rockers that came after him, tho … meh.

I’d say by definition, that makes you an Elvis hugger.

that's just your opinion. not the conventional one.

why should he be compared to people of an era that came after his own? styles change, technology changes, music changes.

i think his music, particularly in the 50's has stood the test of time. it's not only historic, it's exceptionally well done.
