Add to that the fact that he was home-grown son in SF while he is a merc in Boston.

Home-grown kids get 1000X the leeway that mercs get.

No doubt. I remember Zito getting booed pretty hard from Giants fans his first year when he struggled out of the gate. Compare that to Lincecum who the fans always cheered no matter how much he was struggling at the time. Never happen with Timmy.

Red Sox announce that third baseman Pablo Sandoval will undergo surgery on his left shoulder. The procedure will be performed in the coming days by Dr. James Andrews. Sandoval is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Pablo Sandoval needs reconstructive surgery on his left shoulder, per ESPN's Buster Olney.

Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reported Monday night that the surgery is "significant" and the odds are against Sandoval playing this season, so Olney's report appears to jibe with that. The 29-year-old has received all sorts of criticism for his level of fitness, but his situation is much more complicated. The big question is what sort of future Sandoval has in Boston. He still has three guaranteed years (and $58 million) on his contract. The Red Sox will have the DH spot open after David Ortiz retires, so that could be where Sandoval slots in if healthy in 2017. A change of scenery might be the best for all involved, but the Red Sox would have to pick up most of his remaining contract for anyone to take a chance on him.:suds:

Not sure how this works but does this keep Sox under the luxury tax?

He is rich now. He can afford industrial-strength straws for his meat-shakes...

You guys couldn't contain yourselves trying to convince us how cute "Panda" was.
:bullshit:
Yea, back when he performed. Once he became a FA, few of us wanted him back because we all saw this coming (OK, admittedly, few us expected it to go this bad this fast).

To take this one step further, Giants fans on THIS board were almost unanimously stoked that the FO was putting weight clauses in his contract offers because we saw how little he paid attention to or cared about his weight while under contract. He was pulled from the starting lineup in 2010 during the stretch run because he was too fat to field his position, he blimped out through the course of the 2013 season to near 2010 levels, and did the same towards the end of 2014.

We wanted him back with the caveat that he gets paid according to his willingness to control his weight because a fat Panda was a HUGELY ineffective Panda. Pun intended.
