:L Every time I see Jimmy Smith's name from the Jags, it reminds me how he was ALWAYS money against Pittsburgh back in the days when the Jags were good.

Of course Andre is the easy choice for the Texans. For now.

If Hopkins keeps doing what he's doing and can actually get paired with a decent QB, he will replace Andre on this list.

My memory tells me that Shannon Sharpe > Rod Smith. Pretty sure its not close. Rod Smith is one of those really solid players but the horsehead was a better player.

Herman Moore for the Lions he was overshadowed by Barry, but his stats were just as good as Calvins if he hadn't had his career shortened by knee injuries he would be a hall of famer, plus he was one of the best blocking receivers of all time.

Sterling Sharpe for the Packers

Andre Rison for the Falcons

Shannon Sharpe for the Broncos

Rob Gronkowski for the Patriots

I've seen a couple of Lions fans say this but I mean:

top 10 season between the 2 in yards:

Calvin 1964
Herman 1686
Calvin 1681
Calvin 1492
Calvin 1331
Herman 1296
Herman 1293
Calvin 1214
Herman 1173
Calvin 1120

So 6 of the top 10 yardage seasons to Calvin and 4 of the top 5 and the clear #1.

Believe it or not, Calvin might have had a better catch rate and had 2.2 more yards per catch. Calvin's 5th and 6th best TD seasons were on par with Herman's 3rd and 4th best. Calvin had 24 more yards per game over his career.

Herman must have been one badass blocker for you to say that he is better than Megatron

Yards aren't everything the Lions were a running team at the time and passed far less than they did during Calvins career and Herman was sharing targets with 2 other great receivers Brett Perriman and Johnnie Morton. Both Herman and Calvin were 4 time first team all pros.

And thats why I think you can have a conversation about it. I just don't see the argument for saying that Herman was better. Like when I was comparing Lebron to Bird, a Bird fan could say 'yeah, but winning' and I didn't really have anything for that so its a legit debate. Herman was really, really good but Megatron would've left him in the dust completely if he didn't just give up. As is, its close but Megatron's statistical advantages are everywhere in every possible way.

Driver back in the 1940's would still be begging for civil rights. Like I said, Hutson's era of football was filled with white players not even close to the talent level of today.

You are retarded.

Only because of 2 major knee injuries when healthy i'd take Herman everytime far better hands better rout runner just as physically dominant compared to the defensive backs of his day plus he was willing to do the dirty work not just play decoy like Calvin when the play isn't directed towards him.

Not saying Calvin isn't great if i had to pick one receiver for a jump ball i'd probably take Calvin over anyone in NFL history

The better hands isnt really represented in the catch rate. Or yards. Or Tds.

I've only seen about 5 or 6 games with Herman so I can't really judge him too much. Its probably closer than the casual fan thinks but I just don't see any reason for picking him other than preference. I do think if I was a fan of a team, my preference would be towards the guy who got too injured to play and not the guy who just gave up leaving 2-4 years on the table. So I can see that side of it. And like you said - same number of all pro years which is really the best way to compare players across eras. So I don't think your claim is all that ridiculous. Id just lean towards Megatron.

Calvins drop rate will represent that also targets/receptions ratio

edit Herman Moore also broke Cris Carters single season reception record

1312 targets for 731 receptions. 55.71% catch rate.
1135 target for 670 reception. 59.03% catch rate.

So there is about a 3.3% gap in their catch rate where Moore is more reliable. 13.7 yards a catch for Moore while Megatron has 15.9 yards a catch with more usage and more scores per game.

I still don't really see it.

For the Eagles, it is probably Tommy McDonald, who is a Hall of Fame player.

Yeah...I had a tough time picking the Eagles. Similar to Hutson with the Packers, the numbers don't always tell the whole story. I checked with a few Eagles fans and some other forums and most said Carmichael because of the numbers, but Tommy seems like as good a choice as any in Eagles history.

Id take Sterling Sharpe over Driver since we are in bizarro hypothetical territory.

Hutson is a top 10 WR of all time as far as I can tell
That's an interesting point. Sterling was on a scary pace before he prematurely retired. If he hadn't he would likely be in the Rice and Moss territory. But Hutson seems to be the consensus pick here. Driver had a lot of yards and receptions, but Hutson blew the competition away with the amount of times he scored. And most Packers fans agree on Hutson. I'm surprised people are arguing about it, it was one of the easier choices for me.

I was looking at all the Ravens' receivers, and nobody stuck out to me. The only guy that had much of a tenure and consistent production was Heap. It was between him and Derrick Mason, and Derrick's and Todd's numbers were pretty similar. So I went with Todd's tenure over Mason. I could be wrong. I didn't ask any Ravens fans. We tend to not get along too well.
