i'm ranked top 10 in the southwest in the seniors.

and how often do you approach the net and finish the point at the net. probably only when there's a short ball.

What USTA level is that?

i play seniors mostly now. still have a 4.5 rating, have won matches in 5.0 tournaments.

Pretty much same here but I dont play seniors yet (Though I am old enough). Getting tough to keep up with these kids though. playing mostly doubles now. Played some 5.0 but never came close to beating one. That good that young is a bit much for me. My sport was baseball growing up so I never even played tennis until I was middle aged.

playing seniors has made me a real fan of shortening points by trying to move forward and finish at the net.

playing 3 matches in a weekend is just greuling anymore.

i also think the one hander is more effortless shot, requires less energy.

I am probably going to move over soon. Maybe I can play more singles. I seem to beat the Sr.s here in the NE, but I can't bring myself to admit I am old.

that's correct.

you just do the windshield wiper motion.

at least that's how they taught me at Vander Meer.

I preferred my two hander though

tried switching to a one hander a few years back when I broke my left wrist. Found it difficult to generate power against someone who hit with very little pace, which is often the case in mixed doubles.

I went back to my two hander, but I will mix it up some.

be happy you can still play up there. cali, and nevada have shut tennis down statewide. here in tucson they closed the city courts so i have play up in the foothills.

i guess there are pros and con depending on a variety of factors. success largely depends on the player in each case.

Justin had a beautiful backhand. I don't think anyone hit it any better.

I started with the 1 hander but learned the 2 hander for return of serve and then started using it more and more.

i learned the slice first, then gradually got the topspin.

simplest instruction i've seen is a 1 backhanded is like drawing a sword out of a sheath, ending high.

There were town tennis courts about 3 blocks from the house I grew up in....a neighbor wanted to learn to play when I was around 9, so I got my mom to buy me a wooden racquet for $8 and I went to play with my friend every weekday it didn't rain one summer vacation.
I think 90% of the running we did was to avoid hitting a backhand....would run completely around the ball to hit a forehand instead. We probably should have learned the two handed variety, but didn't have a teacher.
The next summer, we found something else to do.
The next time I played after that was in Dallas after I had been playing racquetball for several years, starting in college...my apartment complex had courts and a friend wanted to play. I couldn't stop flipping the long tennis racquet like a much shorter rball version and really putting a zap on my wrist, plus I hit the ball over the fence about 10 times before my friend gave up.
That was it for tennis for me...30 years ago!
