Jokes aside, wasn't it around 2012 when he had some injury problems and it looked like he would retire only to hit a third wind? I know in 2009 he struggled as well.

He had a wrist injury in 2008. He struggled badly in the first two seasons of 2009 (.623 OPS in April, .520 (!) in May) before turning it around (he batted .264/.356/.548 over the remaining four months).

odd timing for Theo to state that but it's probably true since I honestly don't think Theo would have anything to gain from saying it now

But he would have/will have a ton to lose. Future FAs are gonna worry about him throwing them under the bus for whatever stuff they do...

hello mr gullible:suds:

the actual quote

David Ortiz hit all of two home runs in the first [two months] of the 2003 season and in mid-May had his agent come and ask me for a trade to somewhere he could play more regularly. Fernando Cuza came to talk to me and I told Cuza at the time that David was someone we wanted to get everyday at-bats, but we just needed to pare down the roster a little bit. We ended up trading Hillenbrand instead of David Ortiz, so I guess that was a good decision in hindsight. David got regular playing time and ended up hitting close to 30 homers in the second half of the season and was off and running as Big Papi.

Butthurt? We fucking retired him in the 2016 ALDS. Three straight games.

Any butthurt I may or may not have had would have flown right out the window as watched him stand on the pitchers mound and cry like a giant, steroid-fueled little girl.

I don't think this was news. This had been discussed before in news outlets IIRC.

That Epstein really lucky Rajai Davis forgot how to play centerfield, cause he has made some awful signings since

Yu Darvish is the latest

I remember that.

He looked like he was swinging a telephone pole.

It was so bad.
