I really can't stand Simmons. He's got a great eye for talent, but man is he a total prick.

As much as it hurts me to admit it, I agree. I used to love reading his articles. When I was in Iraq in 2011 I would get his articles emailed to me every Wednesday because I only had access to a SIPR computer (not sure if that was technically allowed, but it didn't hurt anything and it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission). It was one of the few things I could look forward to.

While he was never a great writer, he was funny and I found his pop culture to sports parallels interesting. He seemed relatable, just a guy who really liked sports and was excited to share his, often crazy, views.

However, now, he is (as you said) a total prick. He can't get through one conversation without bringing up Larry Bird or bitching about how bad the Patriots have it. He is constantly name dropping and has lost all relatability (that's a word, right?). To borrow from Bill Simmons' own writing style here, he is like Rocky. In the first movie, he was just an average Joe on the street trying to get by who got a lucky break and took advantage of it. You could see yourself in his shoes and were happy for his success. However, by Rocky IV, he lives in a mansion, drives 2 high performance sports cars and owns a fucking talking robot.

I realized this a year ago when reading a Simmons article with him lamenting the decision on whether to go to game 7 of the Western Conference Finals or the Manny - Mayweather fight. He was acting like we should fucking feel bad for him for having to make this decision. That was the day I stopped being a fan.

TLDR; Bill Simmons' is a prick.
