Pitching Line: IP-H-R-ER-BB-K

AAA: Sacramento River Cats were off

AA: Richmond Flying Squirrels lost 6-4 (46-53)

Patrick Ruotolo 2.1-0-0-0-1-5
Garrett Williams 1.0-2-1-1-0-1
Jose Flores 1.2-2-1-1-2-0

Pitching in relief isn't going well for Williams, in fact he's been worse off. He could use the offseason right about now. Ruotolo, meanwhile is just killing it. He may challenge for a bullpen spot next year.

A+: San Jose Giants lost 3-2 (45-57)

Bryce Johnson 3-4, 1 R, 1 K, 1 SB (20th)

Mac Marshall 3.0-4-0-0-0-2

Olbis Parra 1.0-1-0-0-0-0
Orleny Quiroz 0.2-0-1-1-1-0
Camilo Doval 1.1-2-0-0-1-2

Marte throws up to 96 with his fastball. The numbers don't jump off the page, but the ability is there. Someone to keep an eye on.

A-: Salem-Keizer Volcanoes WON 6-9 (20-18) nice...

Joey Bart 2-3, 2B, 2 R, 1 BB
David Villar 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 R

The Giants released Ryan Hanigan from Sacramento. He was the worst hitting of the three catchers on their roster, which is really saying something. Out of the 6 catchers that have played with Sacramento this season, the best of the bunch get a release a couple of months ago by slashing .241/.326/.329.
Really, though, it seems they are making room for the guy that will be sent down when Longoria gets activated. I assume that will be Tomlinson.

Zander Clarke 1-3, 1 BB, 1 R, 2 K

Canario has put a slow start behind him. Looking real good lately.

Zander Clarke is an interesting guy. He was just signed as an UDFA, forgoing a year of college eligibility. Clarke is a huge dude with some solid power projection. Kind of a one-trick pony, but someone to watch.

I saw that Zander Clarke just recently got signed (the 6th or 7th NDFA signed by the Giants this year, no doubt a result of the 2nd AZL team). However, I didn't know that he skipped his senior season. Very interesting move on his part. Hope it works out for him. I thought that guys not drafted typically go back their senior season in hopes of improving their draft stock.

Chris Heston was released yesterday after three appearances in Richmond (one start).
He was one of the final nails in Kruk’s credibility coffin for me. Kruk was blowing so much hot air up our asses about how Heston was going to be a major fixture in the Giants rotation for the “next 6 years”. He barely made it through the year.

Now I can’t hear anything Kruk says now without rolling my eyes.

A random piece of minor league information that I find interesting. There are 9 minor leaguers under control of the Giants' organization who do not appear on any rosters (either as active, restricted or disabled list). Neither have they formally retired. They are (with year drafted, round drafted and last year played):
Bryce Tucker, p (2018, 14th, not pitched yet)
Brac Warren, p (2017, 17th, not pitched yet)
Justin Alleman, p (2016, 20th, 2016)
Heath Slatton, p (2015, 18th, 2017)
Bryan Case, c (2015, 27th, 2017)
Greg Brody, p (2014, 11th, 2017)
Dieyerbert Bolivar, p (2013, int, 2017)
Jean Angomas, of (2013, int, played with Augusta earlier, placed on the dl and then removed from the roster but not reassigned anywhere else)
Jason Forjet, p (2012, 31st, 2016)

Yeah, but did they win the game?

Making three outs in one inning. That is a rare talent!

Looks like Batista would fit right in to the present club.

Call him up!

You'll like this one. Yesterday, the DSL Giants scored 11 runs on only 5 hits.

Isn’t Batista the name Posey uses as an alias on the road?

For those interested, and in the area, the River Cats are on the local CBS channel tonight. Jordan Johnson is going for the Cats, so not terribly exciting.

I think Jesus Tona is an intriguing story in Salem-Keizer. Tona started his professional career as a catcher, posting good numbers in the DSL in 2015 but getting little playing time in the AZL in 2016 and 2017. He threw a couple of games last year and got converted to pitching full time this year, starting out in the NWL, after never playing above rookie ball. Considering all that, his numbers are phenomenal! In 13 games so far, he's 19 innings, giving up just 11 hits, 5 walks, 3 runs (1 earned) and striking out 27! He may be a guy to watch. Considering his age (22), he is a little old for the NWL so he may get bumped straight to the Cal League next year.

Definitely. He started as a catcher, converted to 2nd, back to catching, then converted to pitching.

I've seen reports that have him up to 95 with his fastball
