And we get Pelfry.

It's mindnumbing how bad of an idea that was to add him to our rotation. What an absolute waste.
There is a HUGE diffence between a 16 mil 2 yr contract and a 5 yr 80 mil contract.. I get you don't like pelfrey.. but you can't expect the Tigers to sign 190 mil in pitching contracts in 1 offseason.

Not sure what the Tigers expect to get out of Pelfrey to be honest other than innings...

I can think of better ways to spend an extra $8 million a season. Pelfrey better throw 180+ innings at least, for that price.
Ain't happening. If he doesn't get hurt(which is what I assume happens) I doubt he gets the chance to start enough games to anywhere close.

If we'd brought him in say in 2011 or 2012 I could understand. But not here in the present. Hard to justify for me.

I'd settle for zero innings and chalk it up to Avila being new tbh.

Yes I can.

They needed to in order to compete. The staff isn't good enough currently.

The Tigers current pitching staff is probably the 3rd best out of the 5 teams in the AL Central... and their offense is very arguably the best. Their bullpen is the key to them competing for the division. If the new bullpen holds up.. they will be fine.. and can add a pitcher around the deadline with the money they still have in the bank.

I wouldn't complain if Raburn was added. I doubt they are going to flip Maybin for pitching though... My guess is Gose would be the one to go because he would net something much better in return.
I don't want three rightie outfielders. Especially when one of em is RyanRaburn. Lol

Plus Id like to keep Gose speed on the roster. Not much of a baserunner, but that speed is an asset.

I really think you are underestimating what Daniel Norris is going to do this year. The kid is legit and proved that last year. If he only does what he was doing last year... as a 22 yr old.. the rotation has 3 VERY good pitchers.

I agree... but Maybin isn't going to get flipped for anything of value.. if he could have been the Tigers wouldn't have gotten him for spare parts.

I don't share your optimism on the 30something injury prone starters we have. "Fine" is not what I see from them.(maybe JV)

Plus Norris having cancer.

Zimmerman is where my confidence lies. And he's changing leagues.

The bullpen should be better, which is great. Don't get me wrong. But I don't see improvement in starting pitching. No Price takes care of that. Prolly the weakest the starting five has been (in the offseason) since before we dealt to Scherzer.

Cancer is not a great offseason training regime.

I just hope the kid is healthy, for his sake.

Agreed, with Sanchez a wild card. My only issue with Norris, as I stated on the 2015 thread, is he likely will pitch out of the #5 spot to limit his innings to around 150. He's never thrown more than 131 IP in a season -- that was 2014 (124.1 in the minors, 6.2 with Toronto). If he does really well with a lot of quality starts, he could be shut down as soon as late August.

The only starter I am concerned about is Sanchez... Pelfrey I don't even think about.. he is a back of the rotation starter that might be a roster casualty if Fulmer ends up being legit.

You do realize he had cancer last year and held off having it removed until the offseason.. he was actually playing with cancer... There is no reason to think from any medical standpoint he isn't going to come into this season as good or better.

Doesn't have to be anything special.

I'd rather have Raburn than Maybin tbh. He's a better hitter.

No way Fulmer begins the season in Detroit, but I could see him as a mid-season call-up.

LOL... Seriously.. The Braves traded Maybin for Krol and a low A ball pitcher... think about that for a second.
