As silly as this thread is, North Dakota State probably could join a Power 5 conference and finish with a winning record

The Big 10 perhaps should consider dropping Rutgers and adding North Dakota State, huge upgrade

Not in terms of market share, which is what the conferences are interested in.

North Dakota State has balked at the potential move to FBS. In contrast to Georgia State and UMass, ND State makes more in contributions, way more revenue, and their athletes pay less to play.

Not saying a future move to the MAC or MWC isn't possible, but it seems like ND State would only do it if they got bored of winning too much at 1-AA or they really feel like they've got something more to prove.

Market share is incredibly overrated when it comes to teams like Rutgers...sure they're in a good location but no one gives a crap about Rutgers. Rutgers is such an awful program at everything that they probably belong at the FCS level....in fact it makes more sense than North Dakota State being there.

By adding Rutgers the Big 10 may have added like 10 extra sets of eyes, and other than Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan who sell out no matter what, every Big 10 team is losing ticket revenue by playing Rutgers instead of an actual opponent

One of the biggest sticking points is they want to keep their rivalry with South Dakota State, and so far a FBS conference hasn't been willing to bring in both. Honestly I think the MWC would get an upgrade if they added both of them

Got it. I love you guys that come on here and think winning in these little conferences with very little competition makes you think you are a major powerhouse. Sure, you may have a very good football team from time to time, but it doesn't mean you're ready for a major conference. Maybe you are, maybe you're not. Playing in a big 5 conference means you have to play good football teams every week. Yes, in the big 5 there are programs that are down from year to year, but they are still going to better than who you play every week. HUGE difference from what NDS plays in now. There is a difference The odds say, you wouldn't be nearly as successful.

The last time ND State lost to an FBS team was 2009 when the Bison went 3-8. Since then they're 6-0 against FBS competition with wins over Kansas, Minnesota, Colorado State, Kansas State, Iowa State, and Iowa. That win over Iowa was in 2016 and the Bison getting an FBS team to pay them for a visit is a little harder to come by these days.

Quick smoking crack. It is bad for your health.

Sure, they have some nice one off wins against some P5 schools when it is their Super Bowl. Put them into a weekly grind in a conference and they aren't beating half the teams. They may be able to compete and win a couple over a Rutgers, Kansas, or Vanderbilt, but they'd severely struggle with even mid-pack teams week after week after week.
