Seems Popodopolopouls in Toronto figures he's losing his job unless he gets a championship this year so he's all in.

I don't understand the moves at all. They're 7 games back for the division with the Orioles and Rays right there. Yeah, they're only two back from a wild card, but is all this really worth landing in a one-game play in?

The team needed pitching and they got 1 of the best but at the cost they gave up they better hope he leads them to the playoffs and he signs with them long term.

This is what His Majesty Bud Selig wanted when they expanded the wildcards, right? More teams who thought they should be buyers at the deadline?

4.50 ERA

only win, vs boston, as a rookie in relief

I don't think he wanted teams to be "buyers" necessarily. I think he wanted more teams/fan bases engaged later in the season.

Sounds like you don't like the new wild card format? I'm a HUGE fan of it.

Oh no, I think it's just fine. One of the few things that Selig got right, if you ask me. It might be what gets the Mets into the post-season, as well, and with their pitching staff, anything is possible once you're in.

Play the Yankees 13 times down the stretch. AL East isn't out of grasp at all.

Cost wasn't much. Norris was always going to be traded for immediate pitching help. The other two aren't anywhere near the best in the farm. I'd be far more pissed off if they gave up Alford or Osuna.

There was talk last week about Manfred wanting to push the deadline back. I am all for that, I think it's way too early given the WC format to be determining whether you're really in or out.

I'm ecstatic about this move.

Having said that, they need another starter. Preferably one with term, especially if they're going to give up Alford for it.

We will give you Leake and Chapman for some pieces.

As I said, the Rays and Orioles are right there with them, so there's three teams chasing the Yanks. It's not out of grasp, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I heard the Reds were still asking huge for Chapman. Like, give it up. What good is having a Ferrari if you've gone blind and can't drive it or look at it? Get what you can and move on.

They probably are asking huge and they should. No point giving away the most dominant closer in baseball for nothing, even if you can't really use him. A comp pick is better than some crappy prospects.

However you want to rationalize it, Danny. Three prospects for a two-month rental and a long-shot to the postseason. Seems a lot to me, but what do I know?
