The Dallas Cowboys have signed Chris Greenwood off of our practice squad. Looks like he'll finally get some live game action after all...

I don't get how this falls back on Mayhew? Clearly the kid is talented enough to be on an active roster, and Mayhew initially brought him to Detroit. That's what he's supposed to do.

Greenwood's problem here was that he was too raw to just throw into the mix, and he was injured too often to show what he had. Can't really blame the coaches on this one, either.

We'll have to see how he does with the Cowboys now...

He was a 5th round pick and we traded up for him. :gaah:

Now he's gone. Fuller, another 5th rounder is useless at a time when we need a WR more than any team in the league. We also traded a 5th rounder for Mike Thomas. He works at Denny's now. I don't see how this doesn't fall on Mayhew.

I think you're taking far too much of a short-term approach to the draft.

In Greenwood's case Mayhew delivered a pick who was good enough to make the roster, but injuries limited his chance to make the final cut for the last two camps. Schwartz decides on the final 53, not Mayhew.

Fuller is still very much in the fold, so unless someone poaches him too I don't see any beef there. I don't think there's other 6th or 7th round WRs that we could have had who are making an instant-impact. Demanding that a rookie 6th rounder step in and produce is not rational- he was drafted as a long-term project.

Mayhew screwed the pooch on the Thomas trade for sure.

I just want to see the guys we draft play for us man. Not get cut, not get benched etc...especially when they are guys we traded up to draft.

I'd like to see us keep our draft picks and take more guys like Chris Greenwood.

Mayhew did not put Greenwood on the practice squad though, that was a schwartz mistake.

Who would we have cut/put on the PS instead though? (Kickalicious if Sheriff Goodell wasn't such a jerk face). It would have great had CG worked out for us. But with Mathis around I don't see how there was room. Unless Green or Bentley were deemed more expendable.

I always had CG on our 53...take your pick as who to release in order to keep him...Gomes, Gandy, Fluellen, McIntosh and that is without looking at the roster. As far as PS is concerned...that is a no-brainer...whoever is next on the list...just does not matter.

I'm thinking Mayhew needs to stop trading up for picks. Traded up into the 1st round for Jahvid Best -- plays 20 games and is out of football because of concussions. Traded up in the 2nd round to draft Mikel LeShoure -- plays one season and now he gets paid to stand on the sideline. Trade up in the 5th for Greenwood -- can't make the roster or stay healthy, then picked off the practice squad playing zero games for the Lions in 2 years.

Not good.

I don't really see keeping an extra, untested, raw, DBACK over another positional player. Even though none of them have upside, let alone upside like Greenwood has. (His physical talents are somewhat rare). Cutting McIntosh and keeping CG would atleast have brought down the Lions overall age.
