Honestly a year without any kind of cheating with make more headlines at this point. It's the dirtiest sport in the country and has the most taint. It was America's game when I was a kid, but has fallen from grace.

Pete Rose is still banned from the game... for making bets on his own team to win. That's it. Nothing that impacted the game, made no mockery of records, didn't cause other teams to unfairly lose, and yet he's the devil.

From Clemons to Cora there's a streak a mile wide of names that have left a wake of destruction that did impact others.

You do realize that Rose signed away his eligibility (to immediately end the investigation) right when they were investigating tips/leads that he bet against his team, right? Odd timing for him to do that, unless he potentially had more to hide.

ESPN.com: MLB - Dowd: Rose 'probably' bet against Reds while manager

Dowd, a Washington D.C.-based lawyer, investigated Rose for commissioners Peter Ueberroth and Giamatti in 1989. He said his investigation was "close" to showing that Rose also bet against the Reds, but that time constraints prevented its inclusion in the report.

Dowd also told the Post that Rose did not bet on the Reds whenever two pitchers, including Mario Soto, started, which "sent a message through the gambling community that the Reds can't win" on those days.

So much this. Rose agreed to a lifetime ban to stop further investigation. Fuck that guy and his Hall of Fame candidacy with a fungo bat.
