Down in Flames last night (actually played okay, but ran into a hot Niemi and had a bad five minutes in the 2nd period).

Need to bounce back tonight against the Fowl.

I'd bet Ersberg is available.

On a side note, remind me not to watch a Wild/Flames tilt again. Not good hockey.

Holy shitballs, that was awful wasn't it esls. Once the game was tied early in the 3rd period, you could see both teams were playing the "take no chances, get it to OT" approach.

/Saddledome needs to be destroyed, the Flames need a new arena with new ice.

This injury to Kipper might just be the tonic to start healing the Flames, the team needs to see what life will be like post-Miikka (could also help the Flames get a top-5 draft pick as well).

http://www.calgarysun.com/2013/02/1...eammate-questions-flames-captain-iginlas-fire

It’s one thing for a media sloth, Bobby Beer Leaguer or Johnny Sixpack to suggest Jarome Iginla has lost a step, interest or his edge.

It’s quite another to hear it from a longtime teammate who went to the Stanley Cup final with Iginla and saw the most prolific Calgary Flames player in franchise history at his very best.

Asked for his honest assessment of the Flames captain 10 games into yet another horrid start for him, the retired defenceman-turned-radio host Rhett Warrener did his best to be “intellectually honest,” as GM Jay Feaster encourages people to be.

And the truth, as he sees it, won’t be easy for his pal to hear.

“His greatest asset was his shot but more importantly his compete-level — his refuse-to-lose attitude — and now you are watching and … it’s not there,” said Warrener on his Sportsnet FAN960 morning show Tuesday, a day after a Flames shootout loss that saw Iginla turn the puck over for the Minnesota Wild’s only regulation goal.

“He’s not Dany Heatley-slow, but he’s not getting there. I don’t know if he’s slowed down and his compete-level has followed, but you don’t see that compete and fire in his eye now. I think you see frustration setting in.

“As a captain, he’s not a rah-rah guy or ‘let’s talk it out’ — it’s ‘Watch me, and hop on my back, and follow me.’ I haven’t seen that at all this year.”

Despite playing the most minutes of all forwards, on the top powerplay unit and alongside the team’s best playmaker in Alex Tanguay, Iginla is ranked sixth in team scoring with a goal and five helpers. And while he’s averaged four shots a game, he’s counted on for far more at US$7 million a year.

“Point totals aside, my biggest struggle is finding him in the plays, creating scoring chances and making things happen,” said Warrener, who played alongside Iginla from 2003-08.

“It’s not like he’s Dany Heatley eating too many breakfast sandwiches (with cocaine used as a replacement for salsa) — he’s always one of the best-conditioned guys. So that’s not an excuse. In Vancouver, when things were going slow, where’s the scrap?

I think Iggy could use a new locale to re-energize his game...As I mentioned earlier, the knives are out and I'd like to see him move on before it gets too ugly.

prolly belongs in the trade thread but ...

For Boston fans who keep asking me, I do not believe the B's have any interest in Jarome Iginla. I don't think they'll go there.
