So I was hanging out at the local watering hole and they had the Astros-Mariners game on one of the TVs with the audio off. It was already 4-0 and then I saw Brantley drive in 2 more runs to make it 6-0. I thought it was just another boring game so as soon as I'm finished eating I'll head back home.

Never caught that the Mariners didn't have a hit. I was wondering who this Sanchez guy was on the mound. I didn't catch all the news about the Astros pickups other than Greinke. So I didn't find out about the no-hitter until the next morning. And that by throwing 6 innings of no-hit ball, Aaron Sanchez improved his record to 4-14 and ERA to 5.76. And that 3 other pitchers were used in the game.

The really funny thing is I saw only part of the other combined no-hitter thrown by the Astros against the Yankees back in 2003. I was psyched to see Roy Oswalt go up against them in Yankee stadium. So when he got injured and had to come out after 1 inning, I thought we were screwed. I still don't know how all the middle relievers used got through that game without giving up a hit. It's not like they are dominant pitchers or else they'd be starters. That's why combined no-hitters are extremely rare. And it is almost always 1 starter going 7-8 innings and the closer finishing.

So I can say I got to watch part of both of the Astros combined no-hitters. But I had no idea history was being made until after the fact.

:gaah:

Astros and Dodgers are on another October collision course this season.

2 doubles in a row is a combined home run

The Astros may be the first team to win the World Series in July. Great team!!!

The Yankees might have something to say about that.

Maybe it's just me, but I find the combined no-hitter kind of overrated. The whole drama and excitement of a no-hitter comes from watching one guy navigate through a lineup 3 times. When a guy goes six innings and three other specialty relievers pitch "clean innings" at some point aren't you just celebrating the fact that the other team had an off night at the plate? There really should be an unwritten rule about this. If I was Seattle I would hit the first 5 or 6 Astros batters next time they played. Baseball has to police itself.

Well Greinke made his debut and gave up 5 runs.

What a loser. Should dump him and keep Sanchez.

Greinke is a douchebag headcase who is a strong candidate to axe murder all of his teammates.

Really? How do we get him traded to the Yankees?

Deadline's over. Gonna have to wait until at least the offseason.

Damn. Red Sox are mailing it in and now I have nothing until football and hockey start.
