They obviously matter but can't have 2 losses and other teams with better or similar resumes with fewer losses.

Alabama has homefield advantage but Washington is by far the best opponent Alabama has played

True. It just goes to show that you get rewarded for losing only one game in a weaker conference.

The experts just made a great point here. If Penn State had played Portland State and spanked them in week two instead of losing a heartbreaker to Pitt, they would be 12-1 and automatically in the top four.

So, teams get rewarded for running the table against lesser teams.

The Bama/Washington match-up is the one I most curious about. Bama can be thrown on and finally they'll face a quarterback that doesn't suck hard ass.
