I moved from Michigan to Georgia 15 years ago, so I’ve really only started paying attention to Clemson since moving here in 2008. It seems they have been fortunate to have two of the best college QB’s of the past 20 years, back to back. Before those QB's and now after them, they seem to be just a pretty good program. On top of that, it has helped they play in a conference where the two most historic programs over the past 20+ years (FSU and Miami) have had a pretty bad 5-6 year run.

Is Clemson's success in the 2010's more a product of having top talent at QB more than coaching? I'm not discounting Dabo and his team entirely, but do they need to have a top 15 NFL draft pick at QB to be truly successful? Last night was a pretty bad loss.

Unfortunately, I missed the game last night. But it's hard to believe that an overall talent-drop resulted in Tater U losing to Duke 28-7. Dabo has finished top 10 in Rivals rankings the last 5 years. Losing Venables hurt, but Clemson did fine after Chad Morris left, just continuing with a similar system.

Imo QB is the key; you can't just drop in a 5-* QB and assume he'll play at the level of Deshaun or T-Law. Those guys were elite.

With that much high end talent around the QB at Clemson, there is no reason that you can't just drop in a 4 or 5* QB and he not be highly successful...especially in the ACC. You can't get blown out by Duke in week 1. Maybe they just got caught with their pants down in week 1 and will turn this ship around and win the ACC, but this is a TERRIBLE loss to open up a season for a team with this much talent on both sides of the ball.

Looked at the highlights, and this was a freakish tater loss.

Clemson got inside the 10 three times without scoring, and fumbled twice. Klubnik made some mistakes that contributed to this.

Clemson was recruiting at Bama level during that stretch as well. The biggest reasons for their drop-off is offensively the recruiting has fallen off and slowly started while Lawrence was still there. It started on the O line then spread to skill positions. Look at the WR and RB rooms they used to have and look at them now. That should answer your question. Add in that Dabo hasn't embraced the portal and NIL and it's easy to see why they've fallen back in the pack.
That doesn't mean the offense and the QBs since Trevor just haven't been a good fit because that's a big part too. Never got the hype on Klubnik going into the season. I didn't see anything from him last year that warranted it

I think Clemson and Dabo have proven that they are legit. I don't care how good your QBs are. You don't get to the National Championship multiple times unless you have top players and good coaching. Look how man great QBs Oklahoma and USC have had without even sniffing the Championship.

What I recently heard is that Dabo doesn't like the trasfer portal and he isn't handling it well.

Seems like Dabo packed it in on recruiting expecting Saban to have retired
