Weird things happening at China Open. Serena the top seed almost avoided a bagel against Spanish "qualifier Silvia Soler-Espinosa, then won 13 of the next 15 games to pull out a 7-5, 6-2 victory Monday in the first round of the China Open."

You can read more from here: sports.yahoo.com/news/cilic-ivanovic-advance-china-open-2nd-round-064739759--ten.html

"After the match, Williams said she hadn't been sure she'd be healthy enough to play in Beijing after pulling out of a match against Alize Cornetwith dizziness and nausea last week at the Wuhan Open.
''I just started hitting a couple days ago, taking it day by day. Finally I decided I'm here, I may as well see what happens,'' Williams said. ''I'm feeling a lot better. I have more energy. I look back. Like my eyes aren't as dead as they were.''

"On the men's side, U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic struggled with his consistency against Chinese wild-card entry Bai Yan, ranked 462nd in the world, but held on to win 6-3, 6-4.
Cilic said he's still getting used to the feeling of being a Grand Slam champion and dealing with all the pressure and attention that brings."
The men's game is in trouble if Cilic has this attitude. On the flipside, there is a weird resemblance between Chinese wild-card entry Bai Yan and the young Michael Chan. What do you all think?

I am pretty sure she will report seeing a fuzzy wuzzy Panda bear officiating on the court lines next. Her rabid fans will sympathize with that and even find it cool.

The guy was playing out of his mind. And of course Nadal needs more matches to be in play shape.

Congratulations to Novack Djokovic and Maria Sharapova for winning the China Open:
2014 China Open -- Novak Djokovic, Maria Sharapova win titles - ESPN

"BEIJING -- Top-ranked Novak Djokovic won his fifth China Open title in what he called the most dominant final of his career, routing third-seeded Tomas Berdych 6-0, 6-2 on Sunday in a little over an hour.
Djokovic was one point away from handing Berdych a "double bagel" -- a 6-0, 6-0 defeat -- but the Czech player fought off match point, then broke Djokovic to win his first game. He raised both arms in celebration and smiled with relief as the crowd roared.

On the women's side, Maria Sharapova outlasted Petra Kvitova 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 in a hard-hitting, back-and-forth duel to win the title and return to No. 2 in the rankings"
