Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman Chase Utley has been suspended for Games 3 and 4 of the National League Division Series after MLB ruled his hard slide into New York Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada was illegal.

Tejada broke his leg in the collision in the seventh inning of Saturday night's Game 2.

"After thoroughly reviewing the play from all conceivable angles, I have concluded that Mr. Utley's action warrants discipline," MLB chief baseball officer Joe Torre said in a statement Sunday evening.

The rule needs to be changed. Utley didn't even make an attempt to touch the base. He went directly for Tejada's legs. Breaking a dude's legs shouldn't ever be an acceptable strategic move.

I do have to give Utley credit for quickly adapting to the morality of his fanbase. I hear that as soon as someone signs a contract with the Dodgers, they're immediately assigned to a parole officer.

Well deserved. He didn't start his slide till well after reaching 2nd base & almost simultaneously as when he makes contact with the infielder. That's the issue here. If you are going to try to break up a double play, you have to start your slide way earlier than that.

You just can't do what Utley did & think it's a "baseball play".

When they made the silly catcher contact rules I was telling everyone that far more contact occurs & players get hurt at 2B than do at home plate. That's the contact play that should have had it's rules changed, not contact at home plate.
