At first thought he doesn't strike most as a HOF (including myself), but looking more and more at it, he's had a very underrated career despite playing in NY, and I don't think it sounds so crazy....

Right now (age 36), he has:
.283/.358/.496, 122 OPS+
1342 runs, 2219 hits
357 HR, 1321 RBI
308 steals at an 87% rate
66.9 WAR

It looks like Dale Murphy's career with a lot more steals and better defense...and with 2 more decent seasons he could have 2,500 hits and 400 HR

You don't think steroid allegations are going to keep him out?

Carter certainly wasn't as good a player as Beltran, if you're trying to infer that...Carter put up his numbers while being a mediocre defensive corner OFer, while Beltran put up his numbers while being a good defensive CFer, and Carter wasn't as good all around offensively as Beltran is.

How many players can you name in the 5 yr span from 2001 - 2006 who were linked to steroids but not Carlos Beltran? And how many trainers who've been exposed with links to PEDs also have ties to Carlos Beltran?

His numbers aren't good enough but he won't even have a chance for consideration because he's a cheater.

CArter was clean as a whistle

Also hit one of the biggest homers ever, if not the biggest

Who has come out and said Beltran juiced?

Besides Jose Canseco, who else in the history of baseball has "come out" and said anyone juiced? Name one!

Alex Rodriguez probably is saying it behind closed doors trying to save his own ass

Of course not, but those numbers aren't nearly as good as Beltran's, so I don't understand the relevance.

That's nice. There's dozens/hundreds of players outside of Cooperstown I'd take over Carter.

Not only was Beltran a far superior hitter, but he was a better defender (in CF nonetheless) and was a better baserunner. And there's just as much "evidence" Carter used PEDs as there is Beltran did.

And yes, he absolutely should be in.

Your obsession with PEDs is crazy. Again, I'm not sure if you're trolling, like you are with the Mariano Rivera stuff, or if you're being serious lobbing constant accusations at players who have no known connection whatsoever.

You have all this pent up angst about PEDs nd yet, somehow, you're also an NFL fan. How does that work?

The biggest homer ever? That's ridiculous. And how do you know that he was clean as a whistle, or that Beltran was not?

And this still doesn't explain why Carter is comparable considering he was a very, very mediocre hitter and terrible at every other aspect of the game.

Oh yeah, and as to the subject... Beltran should be a shoo-in. The best all-around CF of his generation, and still a productive hitter into the latter stages of his career.

And if you want to get into "clutchness", he has a line of .363/.470/.782 with 10 doubles and 14 HR and 11 SB (caught 0 times) in 151 postseason PA.

Duh. Totally forgot to mention that he's one of - if not the - greatest postseason hitters of all-time.

Other than MiamiVice, I can't think of anyone on this board who spews more bullshit than you. You're like clockwork and it's fascinating to watch.

"I'm not obsessed with HammerDown." - ImSmartherThanYou

"Still a productive hitter?" Are you not watching what this guy is doing? He's an alien. After suffering injuries that would normally end a player's career, Beltran is only getting better with age.

Hey, I know!

Let's ask Tony Galea what he knows about Beltran's extraordinary ability to heal from devastating injuries while outproducing literally everyone at his age.

Maybe Tony Galea and federal investigators might know something we don't? :noidea:

He is in because of his post season numbers.

He is also not nearly as good as he once was. Not sure Id say he is getting better with age. He just very rarely had support around him in San Fran and New York.
