  SURPRISE, Ariz.-With a solid debut from Mac Lardner, strong defense, and timely hitting Saturday, the Gonzaga baseball team picked up its second win against Duke in as many days, downing the Blue Devils 4-1 at Surprise Stadium in Surprise, Ariz.
  
  In a battle of freshman starting pitchers, Lardner prevailed, posting a quality start with 6.0 innings pitched and just one run allowed. The Templeton, Calif., native fanned eight batters, including three straight in the second inning to strand runners on second and third. He scattered eight hits through those six innings, but only one of them - a solo home run in the fourth inning from Zach Kone - did any damage.
  
  Gonzaga's bats, however, got to Duke freshman Adam Laskey in a hurry. The Zags scored twice in the bottom of the first inning, tallying three hits and getting help from a Duke throwing error. With runners on the corners and only one out, Justin Jacobs drove a pitch up the middle, allowing Sam Brown to advance home. In the next at bat, Gunnar Schubert tallied his first RBI as a Zag, singling to plate Jeff Bohling. Laskey then fanned the next two batters to end the frame.

2018: Led the team with a .322 batting average…finished with a team-best 76 hits, 32 runs scored with 25 RBIs on the season…hit 15 doubles on the season…ranked fourth on the squad with a .378 on base percentage…posted one 10-game hitting streak…also posted three seven-game hitting streaks on the year…posted a stellar performance against San Diego on May 4, finishing with five hits on five at-bats, three runs and four RBIs to help the Zags to a 13-3 win…named All-WCC Second Team….named to the WCC All-Freshman Team…named to the Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-America Team.

2017: Redshirted true freshman season...did not play.

Whatcom Community College: Attended Whatcom CC during fall semester of 2016.

Squalicum HS: Played shortstop and catcher for four years at Squalicum…named Northwest Conference League MVP as a senior…earned First Team State in 2016, Second Team All-State in 2015…three-time All-Northwest Conference team member…hit .525 with 12 extra-base hits and 24 RBIs as a senior…stole 16 bases…fielded .976…earned a spot on the Washington State All-State Team series…also played in the 2016 Northwest All-Star Senior 2A/3A feeder game…made the honor roll all four years.

For just the fourth time in school history, Gonzaga baseball had a player named to the Collegiate Baseball’s Freshman All-American team as third baseman Ernie Yake received the honor.

Yake’s impressive freshman season included a .322 batting average with a .378 on-base percentage and lead the Zags with 15 doubles. He also struck out just 20 times, while drawing 18 walks.

The third baseman’s success wasn’t all behind the plate. Yake committed just four errors on the season to sport a .971 field
