Report: Jets Shopping For QB After Ryan Fitzpatrick, Geno Smith Injuries

Report: Jets Making Calls On QBs After Ryan Fitzpatrick, Geno Smith Injuries

by NESN Staff on Mon, Nov 2, 2015 at 7:35AM

The New York Jets need a quarterback. They lost starter Ryan Fitzpatrick (torn ligaments in thumb) and backup Geno Smith (left shoulder/abdomen injury) in Sunday’s Week 8 loss to the Oakland Raiders, leaving them without a capable player at the sport’s most important position. As you’d expect, the Jets are exploring which quarterbacks might be available to them through various means, per ProFootballTalk. Smith said he’s “pretty confident” he’ll be able to play against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini. Even if that’s the case, the Jets still would need a backup. One quarterback the Jets won’t be pursuing is Ryan Mallett, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Mallett recently was released from the Houston Texans after struggling in the early part of the season. While winning the AFC East division isn’t a realistic goal, the Jets are very much in the wild card picture. They are tied for the first wild-card playoff spot in the AFC with the Raiders at 4-3. But if they cannot find a quality quarterback to fill in for Fitzpatrick, we might see New York slip further in the standings. The Jets offense must play a lot better because the team’s vaunted defense is struggling after giving up 30-plus points in back-to-back games.

Has Josh Johnson played for them yet this season? He's played for everybody else.

And if the Jets turn you down, take a flight to Dallas and try out there...

Sounds mad but Tebow could be a good fit.

We have to hope that whoever is quarterbacking for the Jets even has guys to throw to this fall. It’s almost certain that veteran Josh McCown will be under center. But we could easily see Bryce Petty or Christian Hackenberg slinging the pigskin around as well if he gets injured.

The Jets opted not to select any of the top quarterback prospects in this year’s draft. They also declined to add any veteran quarterback talent other than an aging McCown during free agency."

Gabe Marks for ROY, whatever scrub they put behind center he will make look like a hall of famer.
