When discussing high-potent offenses in the NFL, no one will ever bring up the 2016 Buffalo Bills or the Los Angeles Rams. But the two teams that will be facing off in the Los Angeles Coliseum this Sunday are playing very good defense and winning football games.

The Bills, flying across the country for the first of three West-Coast visits, enter the game on a two-game winning streak. Those two wins came against many pundits picks for a Super Bowl LI matchup, the Arizona Cardinals and the New England Patriots.

The Rams are tied for the lead of the NFC West with the Seattle Seahawks at 3-1 but hold a victory over their division rival. Los Angeles has won three straight games, and though none of the victories were pretty, they all count as wins.

Said Rams quarterback Case Keenum, "I think good teams win the close games. I think that is this league. If you go across the board, every week I think most games, if not all of them, are one- or two-possession games. Some may be determined by a field goal or two.

"You see time and time again that the good teams win those games. They find a way to do it. It doesn't matter how, it matters how many at the end of the day. For us to find a way to get it done is a step in the right direction."

Statistically, Los Angeles is not a good team on offense.

The Rams are 30th overall in passing and own the worst overall offense in the NFL. They average 269 yards a game which is 21.5 yards behind the 31st worst team, the Minnesota Vikings who average 290.5 yards a game.

The Bills are not much better.

Buffalo has the 31st ranked passing attack in the NFL and ranks 28th in overall offense. The Bills average 307 yards of offense per contest. Where the Bills offense separates itself from the Rams offense is the run game. The Bills are seventh in rushing in the NFL with 123.2 yards a game. The Rams, with ballyhooed runner Todd Gurley, are 30th with 76.8 yards averaged on the ground.

This contest will be decided by the defenses and special teams play. Buffalo is coming off a shutout of the Patriots and the Rams stifling defense held a high tempo Arizona Cardinals offense to 13 points in the Week 4 win.

"We started off 2-1, but to be 3-1, I think it puts a different light on the team. I think that was great for us as an organization and a team," Rams linebacker Mark Barron said.

The play of Barron and fellow linebacker Alec Ogletree is one of the reasons Los Angeles has their current record. Barron has 29 tackles with seven passes defensed and two interceptions. Ogletree, the new leader of the defense, leads the team with 36 total tackles.

The defensive front, led by Pro Bowl defensive tackle Aaron Donald, has consistently put pressure on the quarterback the last three weeks. This week, that unit will need to help contain the Bills ground attack. Running back LeSean McCoy is 10th in the NFL in rushing with 297 yards rushing. The former Philadelphia Eagle has a 4.4 yard average and three rushing scores on the young season.

Conversely, a linebacker for the Bills has stepped up his game as well and been the catalyst to the upswing in Buffalo's defense. Linebacker Zach Brown became the starter when rookie Reggie Ragland blew out his knee in training camp. After four weeks of the 2016 season, Brown leads the NFL with 52 tackles and he had an 18-tackle performance against the Patriots to go along with two forced fumbles and a sack.

"It's a great win. My D-Line, I give them my hats off. They kept the offensive line off us. Me and Preston (Brown) were just free, running around making tackles," said Zach Brown of his epic game in New England. This was Zach Brown's third straight double-digit tackle game.

The Bills defense is hoping to be the reason the Rams rushing attack continues to struggle. Gurley, the much maligned runner for the Rams, only has 216 rushing yards on the season. His 2.6 yard average is the worst in the NFL for any player with over 33 attempts. Gurley has rushed the football the fourth most with 82 attempts. The Bills defense held New England running back LeGarrette Blount, who came into the Week 4 game as the NFL's leading rusher, to only 54 yards.

One thing is for certain, these 2 teams do not know each other very well. Right now, I'm not so sure what to make of these 2 offenses being about dead last in every category offensively and still somehow seem to win. Is it a fluke? Yes I'm glad that we are winning, but as a RAM fan, just when things start to look promising, I am use to being knocked off my high horse! I'm really not sure as what to think right now.

I'm prepared for anything. I feel about the same way I did pre Seahags game and went home with a smile on my face.

Hopefully this game will be competitive and we come away with the win!

I'm thinking that this is going to be a low scoring, defensive affair. I think our troubles with the running game will continue, so since I read that they want to use Gurley more as a receiver, I'm interested in seeing if that'll work or not.
But I'm not going to be watching any of the games from here on out for the rest of the season unless things change with the protests. However, I'll try to read this thread some on Sunday afternoon and looking at a play by play on various sites.

Gurley is a good receiver and if he can get a couple of first downs as a receiver it will help the run game. I would also like to see Bennie get the call from time to time just to mix things up. But one thing is for sure you can't keep Gurley down for long he is due for a breakout game...this one may be it.

:agree:

Getting Gurley in space from the passing game has got to be a good thing!

TBH though Bunc, the O line just needs to do a better job at creating some better holes for our running game Gurley or otherwise.

I'm re-watching the Cards game and there was no place for Gurley to go all game.

I thought this was one of the strengths of our O line, run maulers, what happened to that?

I've been asking that question since week one...I knew we'd have some struggles in pass protection, but we weren't supposed to struggle with run blocking...

I don't know I thought the same thing. Gurley never stepped onto the field during pre season. He is healthy but maybe still a step slow. The O-line has been giving Case some time in the pocket but Gurley is getting bottled up at the line :noidea:

He played in one or two series in the the game against the Chiefs. Don't believe they played him in the other three games though.
But I do agree with your point. I don't think that he got enough time to really work off the rust. Though I understand why the coaching staff held him out since they didn't want to risk getting him hurt in preseason games.

Arizona may not be highly ranked against the run, but until the offense is less predictable and challenges beyond 10 yards down the field, they will continue to see 8 or even 9 in the box.

Frikin' Snisher are burning Kroneke's money like no tomorrow. They just gave away a chunk of change to Sensabaugh who they cut on Saturday and they replaced him with Morgan Fox, the DE from Colorado. Apparently the Rams are getting thin at DE. Are we going to see a return of Seau? Don't know.

  • LOS ANGELES -- The Rams released cornerback Coty Sensabaugh on Saturday, less than seven months after signing him to a three-year deal that was worth upward of $19 million.

To take Sensabaugh's spot on the 53-man roster, the Rams promoted defensive lineman Morgan Fox from the practice squad.

Fox, an undrafted free agent out of Colorado State-Pueblo, dominated in the preseason finale against the Minnesota Vikings, with two sacks, two tackles for loss and four quarterback hits.

Now he'll provide depth for a defensive line that could be without three startersfor Sunday's home game against the Buffalo Bills, with Will Hayes (ankle),Robert Quinn (shoulder) and Michael Brockers (hip) all questionable after barely practicing this week.

Sensabaugh will earn $4.5 million for his time with the Rams, a figure that includes a $1 million guaranteed base salary and a $3.5 million guaranteed roster bonus, according to ESPN's Adam Caplan. Sensabaugh is also owed a $1 million roster bonus next March.

left without a role and wasn't even active this past Sunday. The 27-year-old came over after playing mostly as the inside corner on nickel packages during his first four years with the Tennessee Titans. ButLamarcus Joyner has thrived in that role with the Rams, and E.J. Gaines has returned from injury to start as the second outside corner, opposite Trumaine Johnson.

Sensabaugh started in Gaines' spot during the season opener but was benched in favor of Troy Hill, an undrafted free agent, early in Week 2 and didn't take a single snap on defense in Week 3. Sensabaugh then did not dress for the Week 4 matchup against the Cardinals from University of Phoenix Stadium.

Rams coach Jeff Fisher attributed that to injuries, prompting him to activate additional linemen to help on special teams and indicated that Sensabaugh could be active this Sunday.

"Coty has a role, and Coty's done fine," Fisher said then.

But the Rams' injuries on the defensive line, not to mention Sensabaugh's own ineffectiveness in coverage, prompted a split.

With Hayes, Quinn, and Brockers out, this means that we will see a lot more of guys like Longacre, Easley, Cam Thomas, Sims, and Fox on the D-line.

Coty suckied ass, glad he's gone. Fox really impressed me in the preseason finale at Minnesota!

Hopefully if needed he can continue to impress!

Wow, that signing sure worked out well :L When a guy like Troy Hill beats you out(who hasn't looked all that impressive), you're pretty much done...
