I did like Burse as a punt returner but field position on kickoffs and long fieldgoal attempts may be more important.

It is a smart move. Burse on average would get us maybe 5-10 yards on a punt return. Not really setting our offense all that much back by cutting him at this point. On the other hand if the other team is returning kick offs to the 30 and beyond almost every time that is a major problem. I have more trust in our offense to make up those extra 5-10 yards than for our defense to hold a team all game long when they are consistently starting at the 35 yard line.
