This conversation is about Russell, but the thing is he shouldn't be anywhere near this conversation.

Chamberlain probably scored less against Russell than against other centers.

Wilt was going to score against anyone, but how many opportunities he take away from his teammates?

Russell openly admitted he could not defend Wilt 1 on 1, he had the help of his stacked HoF teammates to make things tougher on Wilt, yet he still completely dominated Russell on a routine basis.

Russell won more because he had better TEAMMATES, i don't get why Russell homers can't realize it.

I'd take Willis Reed ahead of Chamberlain even though Reed played for a team I dislike more than any other.

Reed, like Russell, knew what was most important at the C position.

Hammer Down is letting his envy foul up his mental processes.

If I weren't a Boston resident and son of a New Englander I might be envious too!

So the latest argument is that Wilt was far superior.

If this was a 1 on 1 debate that would matter a lot. MJ would also lose 1 on 1 to Wilt, Kareem, Russell and LBJ all because of size.

nobody that has ever played in the NBA is a better player than Wilt Chamberlain, period.

he might not have had the TEAM success like Jordan and Russell, but he was definitely a much better player than both and far more dominant.

If the NBA was a 1-on-1 league...

It's not. 5-on-5 is the NBA game and there Russell is far from being alone in being better than "The Stilt"

5-on-5 is more enjoyable to watch anyway.

I grudgingly agree. But tell me, how many rings does Russell have? I think Boston was willing to endure him for the results. Didn't happen again for a while after he left. Connection or coincidence?

"AFTER HE LEFT" is the key phrase in your post.

The GOAT would be very hard to replace, wouldn't he? Some drop-off would be inevitable, wouldn't it?

Yeah, rebounding, defense and scoring. Wilt was the best at all 3.

He totally dominated Bill Russell his entire career, which Russell freely admits to this day.

If Bill Russell hadn't played for Red's organized crime family, you'd never even know his name. There are 100 small forwards in NBA history that I'd take ahead of Bill Russell.

While not as physically gifted as a small few, I have always felt Russell was the smartest man ever to play in the NBA. His results lend some credibility to my opinion, don't you think?

Bill Russell wasn't even the most valuable player on his team and he even says that.

"The rings" is what the Russell fan chants because other than that, as a player he was very pedestrian and an offensive liability.

Patently absurd. But please tell us reasons why you feel Russell was the smartest that ever played. There should be several convincing reasons why you feel this way.

Magic, Bird and Jordan, along with 100 other PGs through the years were smarter than Russell. Again, since the numbers and the "eye test" prove Russell was far from great, his admirers say things like "he was so smart" because that can't be proved or disproved.

I disagree that he was the best or better than Jordan. In fact, while very dominant, it'd be hard for me to say Wilt was better than Hakeem, Shaq or Kareem. Jordan, Magic and Bird were the most fundamentally sound to ever play the game. I don't see how that can be debated.
