If you don't know, you better ask somebody.

The fact you are the only one to have mentioned him is incredibly sad. He is a badass. And combined with Freddie Washington, the best rhythm section I've ever watched live.

Ever.

Word. I've seen him a half dozen times with Steely Dan and he blows me away.

I read an article with an interview with Becker and Fagen and they said he was the best drummer they ever worked with, which is an amazing endorsement as they've played with beasts. It's his versatility that they admired the most. Said it used to be they'd want one guy to play on this song, another on that, et cetera, then they met Carlock.

By the way, how are you feeling about Steely Dan going on tour this summer?

My wife has a co-worker who is a decent drummer. I mentioned Carlock and he just stared at me... before saying "Carlock is a God". He makes everything he does look so damn effortless it isn't funny. And what he does is incredible.

I don't have a problem with it. I had a ticket to the show in Thackerville, OK after Becker passed away and was a little apprehensive in going. But it was a terrific show regardless. It was still a "Dan" vibe and the band is still great. Only reason I won't go to the Dallas show this year is I'm spoiled. I've seen them at Winstar Casino (Thackerville) three times. It's a 75 mile drive to Irving as opposed to a 35 minute drive to Winstar.

Yeah, if I'm being honest, the only things that Becker or Fagen seemed to contribute was their voices, particularly Fagen's. Sure, Becker would play a solo here or there, and Fagen slams on his keyboard or plays the melodica, but from a musical standpoint, it'd be tough to notice Becker's absence. Makes me feel weird, though. I'm not sure if I'll go or not.

I too have been spoiled in that they've played Blossom Music Center quite a bit, which is about seven minutes from my house (they're playing there this summer, too). I've also seen them at EJ Thomas Hall in Akron (about 15 minutes away), and I also took a trip to Boston to see them play Aja complete at The Wang Theater. You want to talk about spoiled, here's a pic from my seats from that one:
