Evidently they think we will beat Stanford.

We actually can beat Stanford. Stanford offense is not some explosive offense. If we can play smart football on offense it can be done

They also mentioned Notre Dame could be ranked in the top 14 even with 3 losses, would be tough but I guess it depends on what Michigan, Oklahoma and Stanford do the rest of the way.

It's not Stanford's offense that worries me. It's their stingy D and the way they can get after a QB ... not to mention, we're playing them in Palo Alto this year, and there will be a revenge factor!

U never know, that's why they play the games. I would give Coach Kelly coach of the year if he got this team to a BCS bowl. I think FSU might be in the championship game. Their QB looks awesome.

Discover Orange Bowl

Current prediction: Florida State Seminoles vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Next up for Florida State's spot (ACC): Miami, Virginia Tech, Clemson

Next up for Notre Dame's spot (at-large): Wisconsin, Alabama, Auburn, Missouri

If not in the BCS title game, the ACC champion will play in the Discover Orange Bowl, and Florida State is undoubtedly the favorite for that spot right now. Of course, the Coastal division champion, Miami or Virginia Tech, would be one game away from taking the spot for itself by winning the ACC title game in Charlotte. And then there's Clemson. If the Tigers win out, and FSU is able to finish in the top two of the BCS standings and play for the national championship, then Clemson would be a logical choice for the Orange to replace the Seminoles in that ACC slot.

The other spot in the game is not contractually tied to any conference, and the Orange gets the first BCS pick after the conference champs have been assigned and replacement choices have been made. Louisville's loss on Friday greatly clarified the outlook on this position. Notre Dame, if it can win out or finish 9-3 and still be ranked in the top 14, would be the easy preference. If the Irish aren't available, Big Ten teams are usually attractive at-large options, and Wisconsin has a good chance to be 10-2 on a seven-game winning streak. The SEC could also be a possibility if that conference doesn't have a team playing for the BCS title. For example, if Alabama, Auburn or Missouri finishes with one loss but doesn't win the conference, and the SEC champ is in the Sugar Bowl, that team would be in high demand for the Orange -- Alabama perhaps least of all, since it played a year earlier in that same stadium against Notre Dame.

Basically if Notre Dame can get qualified they'll get in because it's Notre Dame, god wills it right.

I can't see how ND ends up as a top 14 team if we lose another game other than most of the ranked teams losing two or more games and I doubt that will happen. ND is presently unranked and got no love for a win over USC. Even with a pants down ass whoopin' of Air Force and Navy I think the only way ND would move up in the next two weeks is if other teams fall. Also we have to be concerned with other unranked teams moving up. We will need help to be ranked in 2 weeks.

With 3 weeks of the season left we play Pitt and BYU the following week. If we were ranked at about 25, we would need to jump all the way up to about 10 so that our 3rd loss (I assume the ESPN people are thinking Stanford would hand ND a loss) would only bump us down 4-5 spots. I don't think the pollsters are going to be impressed with wins over Pitt or BYU.

As I see it the ESPN guys are smoking crack if they think ND has any chance of being ranked 14 with another loss. Even if we win out, I think it will be a struggle to get to 14.

They are almost ranked now and several ranked teams in the back half of the top 25 could easily lose this weekend putting Notre Dame in the top 25. With a win against Stanford, Notre Dame would get ranked in the top 15 by then if they were undefeated. It wouldn't hurt if Oklahoma and Michigan do well the rest of the year as well as Arizona State.

It's not secret that they have to go undefeated the rest of the way to really have a shot, and it would help for the teams that they beat and the teams that beat them to look strong down the stretch. With Tommy Rees or Hendrix at the helm a lot of if's are going to come up. If they win out they'll be ranked at least 14th.

Yeah most likely but I don't think Florida State will be playing in the Orange Bowl, most likely the National Title game, so more likely Clemson, Virginia Tech, or Miami.

I hope we don't make it to a BCS game if we have to play Florida State. They would beat ND be at least 24 points.
