you are missing the pt. That is not what it measures. It compares how your defense did vs your opponents offense based on your opponents success vs the rest of their schedule. Let me try to explain

you play Team A.. Team A went for 5 yds a carry vs Team B. Team B help all there opponents to 4 yards, except Team A. That gives Team A a higher ranking in offensive rushing S&P. If you hold Team A to 3 yards it would be deemed exceptional rush defense. This comparison goes on through every game you play, all of your opponents games, and all of your opponents opponents games. It is not adjusted for a Team with the 5th best SOS, but the results of their per play stats. It is not subjective. It is not perfect, but it is not what you think it is when you bring up SOS.
