I only watched bits and pieces of the game (hey, I was trying to be productive during the day!) but best I can tell it was a better overall effort today than last game. I know that sounds obvious since we won but we looked more coherent. By no means was it flawless, there was some pretty bad decision making, especially those cross court passes when WVU switched to a 1-3-1 zone. Seriously, stop picking up your dribble. You know the zone is coming. All you're doing is playing into the trap by stopping and throwing the ball cross court. I think we need to be more cautious with our bigs on defense as well. We need to switch more on picks and have our bigs hang back in general. WVU pulled all our defenders out of the lane several times in the game, leaving the lane wide open if the ball handler beats his man of the dribble. It happened a lot which resulted in easy buckets for them or drawn fouls as our bigs rush back in late to fill the void.
But overall a great effort to come back after being down 17 and its always great to beat WVU at anything.
The game is available on WatchESPN for those who have access. I skimmed ahead to watch the VT run before and after halftime. Emelogu looks like the real deal. Seems we now have three guards with the ability to drive to the hoop...score or draw a fall. Now we need to get the bigs involved. If Barksdale can get his shit together, I think he could help the team on both ends of the floor. Going to be some ups and downs, but this could be a fun team to watch grow.
Not sure how we only scored 3 points. Our offense looked good, just didn't hit the shots. We are forcing them to take contested fadeaways everytime they get the ball.
