RICHMOND, Va. -- Washington Redskins cornerback Bashaud Breeland was suspended one game by the NFL for an incident during last year's training camp. Later Friday, he injured his right knee during practice, according to a source.
Breeland, who can practice with the team up until the week of the Sept. 13 season opener against the Dolphins, was on the field Friday until being carted off with the knee injury. A source said Breeland suffered a sprained MCL and will miss four to six weeks.
Breeland was injured during a one-on-one drill while covering a receiver. As Breeland tried to plant and come back, his leg gave way, and he was down on the field for several minutes, surrounded by teammates until being carted away.
NFL spokesman Randall Liu said Breeland will serve his suspension in the first week of the regular season whether he is healthy or injured.
Breeland was cited for possession of marijuana last Aug. 11 on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. The incident occurred on the final night of camp, and he was served a summons for simple possession of marijuana.
DeAngelo Hall. The former fourth-round pick has been working as the slot corner in training camp, with Hall starting opposite Chris Culliver.
