I think Whittingham is very under-rated. That is a guy I would really like to see at a blue blood or similar school. I think he could kill it.
When he, Petersen and Patterson were all in the Mountain West at the same time it was a pretty damn good conference IMO.

Ferentz replaced a guy that won at a .613 clip. He has a .596 winning percentage.

Snyder has a .655 winning percentage. He is the first coach at KSU to be above .500 since 1934. Previous 4 head coaches went 33-119 before Snyder got there. He replaced Stan Parrish, who went 2-30-1
Ferentz is on the Paul Johnson level. Mediocre mediocre mediocre, contract running out, have a good season, school shells out a big pay day and 5 year extension. Rinse and repeat.

Honestly this list is one of the worst I've ever seen. Athlon assumes these coaches from solid programs would do the same at elite programs.

Very far from a given.

Recruiting ability is the most important trait in this sport and some simply can't recruit and are way too high.

Bill Snyder at 15 is probably the most overranked coach.

Yes but is the fact that some coaches can’t recruit because of the university they are at? Was Brady Hoke a great coach because he could recruit elite players? No he recruited well because UM recruits for itself. Michigan, Ohio State, FSU, USC, Bama, Texas, etc all have an easier time recruiting than Oklahoma State, UCLA, Northwestern, Georgia Tech.

This is exactly correct. Take Lincoln Riley for example. If he were at his alma mater (Texas Tech) his recruting class wouldn't be nearly as highly rated as it is at Oklahoma. The best he could recruit to Tech would be one or two four stars at best. (OU had 14 this year.) Same guy, different school. Hell, it'd be hard for Saban or Meyer to get the top recruits to go to frickin' Lubbock!

I'll reserve judgement until I see how Franklin does after losing some assistants/coordinators from last year.

They are calling 6 final fours and 2 elite 8s under performing with a number 1 seed, that is kind of harsh. I
I think the article was trying bring exactly what you said to the surface. 6 final fours and 2 elite 8s are only considered underperforming because of the expectations that come with teams that had that many high draft choices on them.

Most of the picks were based on the players they could be, not the players they were at the time. Freshmen 1st rounders are fun to talk about, but winning with 4 freshmen has proven to be hard. Look at my Duke this past year. They were far and away the Most talented team and fell short. That was with some upperclass help

I agree. But that comes with the territory of one and dones. They've chosen that road.

"After a successful high school career, Taggart played quarterback at WKU from 1994-98. He transitioned to coaching with the Hilltoppers in 1999 under Jack Harbaugh and remained in Bowling Green until 2006."

Apparently Western Kentucky University is now in Bowling Green, Ohio

Good job Athlon

No, Western Kentucky is in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
